Patuakhali-2 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2008 by ASM Feroz of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Bauphal Upazila. History The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973. Ahead of the 2008 general election, the Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census. The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency. ASM Feroz
A. S. M. Feroz ( bn, আ. স. ম. ফিরোজ) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician, the incumbent Member of Parliament from Patuakhali-2 and former Chief Whip of the Bangladeshi parliament. Early life Feroz was born on 1 February 1952. He has a M.A. degree in history from Brojomohun College. He is a veteran of the Bangladesh Liberation War. Career Feroz was first elected to parliament in 1979 during the tenure of President and military chief Ziaur Rahman. He joined the Bangladesh Awami League in 1986. He was elected to Parliament in 1986 as an independent candidate. He was elected to Parliament from Patuakhali-2 in 2008 and 2014 as a candidate of the Bangladesh Awami League. Bauphal Upazila ( bn, বাউফল ) is an upazila of Patuakhali District in the Division of Barisal Division, Barisal, Bangladesh. Geography The area of Bauphal is 486.91 km2 and it is located in between 22°19´ and 22°36´ north latitudes and in between 90°25´ and 90°40´ east longitudes. The Jatiya Sangsad ( bn, জাতীয় সংসদ, lit=National Parliament, translit=Jatiyô Sôngsôd), often referred to simply as the ''Sangsad'' or JS and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. General elections were held in Bangladesh on 1 October 2001. The 300 single-seat constituencies of the Jatiya Sangsad were contested by 1,935 candidates representing 54 parties and including 484 independents. June 1996 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 12 June 1996. The result was a victory for the Bangladesh Awami League, which won 146 of the 300 seats, beginning Sheikh Hasina's first-term as Prime Minister. Voter turnout was 74.96%, the highest to date.
