Sid Moffat
Sidney Hugh Moffat (16 September 1910 – 20 September 1981) was an English professional footballer who made 20 appearances in the Football League playing for Birmingham and Millwall. He played as an outside right. Moffat was born in Congleton, Cheshire, the son of Hugh Moffat, the Burnley, Oldham Athletic and England wing half. He began his football career with Congleton Town before joining First Division club Birmingham in 1933. He opened the scoring on his debut, on 17 March 1934 in a 4–1 defeat at Liverpool, a game in which Birmingham's England international goalkeeper Harry Hibbs was injured after 55 minutes and had to leave the field.Matthews, pp. 176–77. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. After the creation of the Premier League, the name First Division was given to the second-tier division (from 1992). The name ceased to exist after the 2003–04 First Division season. Harry Hibbs (footballer)
Henry Edward Hibbs (27 May 1906 – 23 April 1984) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Birmingham and England in the 1920s and 1930s. His uncle and cousinHubert Pearson and Harold Pearsonwere also both professional players. Playing career Hibbs was born in Wilnecote, Staffordshire and, whilst training as a plumber, played for his local club sides Wilnecote Holy Trinity and Tamworth Castle, who had some torrid seasons in the Birmingham and District Football League (the club conceding a total 164 goals over the 1922 and 1923 seasons). Despite this, Hibbs came to the attention of Birmingham when he was 17 years of age, and impressed so much in trials that he was offered professional forms in May 1924. Among such club legends as Frank Womack and Joe Bradford, Hibbs became a regular feature of Billy Beer's side, but it was a barren period in the club's history.
