Sibel Güler
Sibel Güler Sağır (born September 28, 1984, in Bulgaria) is a Turkish taekwondo practitioner. She is a four-time medalist and two-time defending champion at the European Taekwondo Championships since 2004. She also claimed the middleweight division title at the 2005 Summer Universiade in Izmir, but won a silver medal at the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand, losing out to Chinese Taipei's Lin An-Ni in the final match. Guler competed for the women's middleweight category (67 kg) at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, after defeating Greek taekwondo jin and Olympic silver medalist Elisavet Mystakidou in the final match of the European Qualification Tournament in Istanbul. She lost the first preliminary match to Argentina's Vanina Sánchez, who was able to score four points at the end of the game. The women's 67 kg competition in taekwondo at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing took place on August 22 at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium. Competition format The main bracket consisted of a single elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. Two bronze medals were awarded at the taekwondo competitions. A repechage was used to determine the bronze medal winners. Every competitor who lost to one of the two finalists competed in the repechage, another single-elimination competition. Each semifinal loser faced the last remaining repechage competitor from the opposite half of the bracket in a bronze medal match. The Bulgarian Turks in Turkey represent a community of Bulgarian Turks, who immigrated over the years from Bulgaria to Turkey. They are notable in Turkey for being descendants of Balkan Turks who had to escape persecution. and moreover, part of them continue to be dual citizens of Bulgaria and Turkey, which makes them a natural bridge between both countries. Taner Sağır (born 13 March 1985 in Kardzhali, Bulgaria) is a Turkish world and Olympic weightlifting champion. Coming into Athens as holder of all the junior world records at the age of only 19, he broke the Olympic records in the category –77 kg snatch, clean and jerk and total. He is seen as a great talent by authorities. Early years He was born in Bulgaria to parents of Turkish ethnicity.
