Shree Jain Vidyalaya
Shree Jain Vidyalaya, Kolkata (Hindi: श्री जैन विद्यालय), often abbreviated SJV, is a school for secondary and senior secondary education located in the Burrabazar region of Kolkata, India. It is affiliated with the State Boards WBBSE and WBCHSE and more than 2,900 pupils are enrolled in it. The school was founded in 1934 by Phushraj Bacchwat, in whose honour the address of the school was renamed from Sukeas Lane to Phusraj Bachhawat Path. Mahavir
Mahavira (Sanskrit: महावीर) also known as Vardhaman, was the 24th ''tirthankara'' (supreme preacher) of Jainism. He was the spiritual successor of the 23rd ''tirthankara'' Parshvanatha. Mahavira was born in the early part of the 6th century BCE into a royal Kshatriya Jain family in ancient India. His mother's name was Trishala and his father's name was Siddhartha. They were lay devotees of Parshvanatha. Mahavira abandoned all worldly possessions at the age of about 30 and left home in pursuit of spiritual awakening, becoming an ascetic. Mahavira practiced intense meditation and severe austerities for twelve and a half years, after which he attained '' Kevala Jnana'' (omniscience). He preached for 30 years and attained Moksha (liberation) in the 6th century BCE, although the year varies by sect. The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) came into existence in 1975. It is an autonomous examining authority, which is responsible for conducting examinations for standard XII for both government and private schools affiliated to this board. It is responsible for improvement and promotion of education in the state. Burrabazar (also spelt ''Bara Bazar'') is a neighbourhood of Central-North Kolkata, in Kolkata district in the Indian state of West Bengal.
