Shooting At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's 25 Metre Rapid Fire Pistol
The men's ISSF 25 meter rapid fire pistol event at the 2012 Olympic Games was held on 2 and 3 August 2012 at the Royal Artillery Barracks. There were 18 competitors from 13 nations. The event was won by Leuris Pupo of Cuba. Silver went to Vijay Kumar of India, while Ding Feng of China took bronze. It was the first medal in the event for all three nations. Ralf Schumann missed the final for the first time; he had reached the final in the previous six Games (winning five medals, three gold and two silver). Background This was the 24th appearance of what had been standardised in 1948 as the men's ISSF 25 meter rapid fire pistol event, the only event on the 2020 programme that traces back to 1896. The event has been held at every Summer Olympics except 1904 and 1928 (when no shooting events were held) and 1908; it was nominally open to women from 1968 to 1980, although very few women participated these years. Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich
Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich, is a barracks of the British Army which forms part of Woolwich Garrison. The Royal Regiment of Artillery had its headquarters here from 1776 until 2007, when it was moved to Larkhill Garrison. Martin Strnad (born August 1, 1974 in Brno) is a Czech sport shooter. He won a silver medal in the men's rapid fire pistol at the 2009 ISSF World Cup series in Munich, Germany, with a total score of 780.2 points. He won a gold medal in the men's rapid fire pistol at the 2013 ISSF World Cup series in Bangkok, Thailand. Strnad represented the Czech Republic at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed in the men's 25 m rapid fire pistol, along with his teammate Martin Podhráský. He placed sixteenth out of nineteen shooters in the qualifying rounds of the event, with a total score of 562 points (267 on the first stage, and 295 on the second). He won two gold medals, and eventually set a new world record of 583 points in the men's rapid fire pistol ( RFP) at the 2011 ISSF World Cup series in Sydney, Australia, and in Changwon, South Korea. Podhrasky represented the Czech Republic at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed in the men's 25 m rapid fire pistol, along with his teammate Martin Strnad. He placed fourteenth out of nineteen shooters in the qualifying rounds of the event, with a total score of 565 points (276 on the first stage, and 289 on the second). .22 Short is a variety of .22 caliber (5.6 mm) rimfire ammunition. Developed in 1857 for the first Smith & Wesson revolver, the .22 rimfire was the first American metallic cartridge. The original loading was a bullet and of black powder. The original .22 rimfire cartridge was renamed .22 Short with the introduction of the .22 Long in 1871. Sport Pistol
A sport pistol or standard pistol is a type of handgun used in several shooting sports, including the Olympic 25 metre pistol event and 25 metre standard pistol. Since 2005, the 25 metre rapid fire pistol rules also require the use of sport pistols, with a few extra requirements. Other sports to make use of this gun are women's 25 metre military rapid fire pistol, bullseye (in one of its three stages), and a variety of other national shooting sports. By the International Shooting Sport Federation's rules, sport pistols must be in caliber .22 LR, with a minimum capacity of five rounds.
