The Hume is an economic rural region located in the north-eastern part of Victoria, Australia. Buxton is a town north-east of Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria. At the 2016 census, Buxton had a population of 233. The district around Buxton was significantly impacted by the Black Saturday bushfires. It was isolated for several days with no telephone or power. Today Buxton remains a small township with a roadhouse, a post office, general store, a fishing and outdoors store, Salmon and Trout Farm, hotel, a town hall, a primary school, nursery and several bed and breakfasts. Facilities Buxton has an active Country Fire Authority station with one medium and one light tanker. The Buxton Fire Brigade was formed in 1943 and officially recognised on 25 February 1944. Thornton is a town in nestling on the banks of the Goulburn River in the state of Victoria, Australia. It is in the Shire of Murrindindi local government area. The town is approximately halfway between Alexandra and Eildon. The town had a population of 299 at the 2016 census. Taggerty is a town in central Victoria, Australia, Victoria, Australia. It is located at the intersection of Maroondah Highway and Thornton Road. The Acheron River (Victoria), Acheron River also crosses the highway at Taggerty. At the , Taggerty and the surrounding area had a population of 328. A pastoral run called Taggerty Run was established in 1846. The homestead of the run was called Taggerty House. Gold was discovered along the Acheron River in 1870, which led to the establishment of two settlements, named Acheron Lower (now known as Acheron, Victoria, Acheron) and Acheron Upper (now known as Taggerty). Rubicon is a locality in Victoria, Australia, located in the Shire of Murrindindi. It is situated on the Rubicon River. In the 2021 census, Rubicon had a population of 44. Much of the locality consists today of forested protected areas, variously including the Yarra Ranges National Park, Rubicon State Forest, Rubicon Valley Historic and Cultural Features Reserve, Marysville State Forest, Mount Bullfight Nature Conservation Reserve and Cathedral Range State Park. It was once home to a significant timber industry, which was connected to the railhead at Alexandra by a network of tramways. Narbethong is a town in central Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. It is located on the Maroondah Highway, north east of the state capital, Melbourne. History Eltham was first incorporated as a road district on 26 September 1856, and became a shire on 6 April 1871. In 1878, it was altered and re-defined. In 1912, it lost some of its area to the Shire of Healesville.
