Shinn, Fremont, California
Shinn (formerly, Shinn Station) is a former unincorporated community, now incorporated into Fremont in Alameda County, California. It lies at an elevation of . The Shinn area is bounded approximately by Peralta Blvd to the south and Niles to the north and forms the northern part of the Parkmont district of Fremont. In the Shinn area is the Shinn Pond and the Shinn Historic Park and Arboretum, where the Shinn house still stands. The Shinn family ran a nursery, importing trees from throughout the Pacific Rim in the 1850s. This large Victorian Shinn house still reflects the family's humble Quaker origins and ambitious pursuits. The home's interior has high ceilings and is adorned with Victorian-era fixtures. George Shinn
George Shinn (born May 11, 1941) is the former owner of the Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets, as well as the Charlotte Knights and Gastonia Rangers minor league baseball teams, along with the Raleigh–Durham Skyhawks, of the World League of American Football. He purchased the Hornets for $32.5 million in 1987. In 1997, he lost his bid for a potential National Hockey League (NHL) expansion franchise to be called the Hampton Roads Rhinos. William Norton Shinn
William Norton Shinn (October 24, 1782, Burlington County, New Jersey – August 18, 1871, Mount Holly Township, New Jersey) was a United States representative from New Jersey. Biography Shinn was a farmer and Sheriff of Burlington County, New Jersey from 1825 to 1828. He was elected to the New Jersey General Assembly in 1828, served in the New Jersey Legislative Council in 1818 and 1829 to 1832, and was chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee in 1832. Shinn was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses, serving in office from March 4, 1833 – March 3, 1837. After retiring from Congress, he resumed farming, and served as president of the Burlington Agricultural Association in 1853 and 1854. He also was elected a director of The Camden & Amboy Railroad. Nick Shinn (born London, England, 1952) is a typeface designer. He attended Bedford School then Leeds Polytechnic, where he earned a Dip. AD in Fine Art. In 1976 he moved to Toronto, Canada, where he worked as an art director and creative director at a number of Toronto advertising agencies from the 1970s into the 1980s. In 1989 he started ShinnDesign, his own digital studio, specializing in publication design. Nick has designed everything from books and magazines to web sites. Since 1980 he has designed over 20 typeface families, some for respected publishers, including Walburn and Brown for the Canadian daily "The Globe and Mail." Milicent Washburn Shinn (April 15, 1858 – August 13, 1940) was an author, editor, and child psychologist. She was the first woman to receive a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. She entered the State University in September 1874 and finished her undergraduate degree in 1880. She was one of three student speakers at the commencement. She edited the '' Overland Monthly'' from 1882 to 1894. She received her Ph.D. in 1898 at the age of 40. Larry Dwight Shinn (born January 16, 1942) was president of Berea College, Kentucky, from 1994 to 2012. Prior to this appointment he taught for fourteen years in the Department of Religion, Oberlin College, and was Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Dean of Humanities and Head of the Religious Studies Department at Bucknell University. Mount Shinn
Mount Shinn is a mountain 4,661 meters in elevation, standing 6 km (4 miles) southeast of Mount Tyree in the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica. It surmounts Ramorino Glacier to the north, upper Crosswell Glacier to the northeast, Goodge Col to the southeast, and Branscomb Glacier to the south-southwest. Mount Shinn is thought to be the third-highest peak in Antarctica. The peak was discovered on IGY reconnaissance flights in January 1958, and named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Lieutenant Commander Conrad S.
