Shinji Takashima
Shinji Takashima (Japanese: 高島信二, ''Takashima Shinji''; born October 23, 1960 in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese musician, composer, and music producer. He is known for being the guitarist of Omega Tribe. Takashima was the only member of Omega Tribe who was in all versions of the band, excluding Brand New Omega Tribe. Biography Takashima formed Kyutipanchosu with fellow guitarist Kenji Yoshida, with vocalist Kiyotaka Sugiyama and keyboardist Akira Senju joining later. The band focused on rock-oriented genres similar to The Doobie Brothers. Takashima participated in the 19th Yamaha Popular Song Contest in 1980 with the band. After winning the contest and Sugiyama being scouted by producer Koichi Fujita, the band renamed themselves as "Kiyotaka Sugiyama & Omega Tribe." The band debuted in 1983 with " Summer Suspicion." Omega Tribe (Japanese: ; sometimes stylized as Ωmega Tribe) was a Japanese soft rock and city pop project that was led by producer Koichi Fujita, with the bands being handled by industry veterans Tetsuji Hayashi, Tsunehiro Izumi, and Hiroshi Shinkawa at different points of the band's existence. The project was active from the early 1980s to the late 1990s, having several hits during its lifespan with the help of lyricists, composers, and arrangers. Toshitsugu Nishihara
was a Japanese music project led by producer Koichi Fujita from 1983 to 1995. With the help of composers Tetsuji Hayashi, Tsunehiro Izumi, and Hiroshi Shinkawa, the project had three different bands with three different lead vocalists: Kiyotaka Sugiyama (1983–1985), Carlos Toshiki (1986–1991), and Masahito Arai (1993–1994). Under Fujita's directions, recordings were performed by studio musicians and production handled by the project's production team. The project has been described as helping form the city pop sound, especially with the project's usage of summer and sea themes. Background The name Omega Tribe was suggested by Hawaiian DJ Kamasami Kong, who described the name as a combination of the Greek letter omega (Ω, ω), meaning "last", and "the last race". Mitsuya Kurokawa
Mitsuya Kurokawa (, ; 18 September 1951 – 6 June 2020) was a Japanese guitarist who was most known to be in 1986 Omega Tribe. Biography Kurokawa was born in Nakano, Tokyo. He dropped out of high school to pursue band activities. In 1977, he participated in EastWest '77 with the band Riverside, and they won 2nd place alongside Casiopea. Backing band and 1986 Omega Tribe From 1979 to 1985, Kurokawa was a part of the backing bands of Hiromi Iwasaki and Momoko Kikuchi as a part of the Pineapple Company. In 1986, he left the backing bands and joined the band 1986 Omega Tribe as a second guitarist and band leader. is a Japanese band from Yokohama, Japan. It consists of lead vocalist Kiyotaka Sugiyama, rhythm guitarist Shinji Takashima, lead guitarist Kenji Yoshida, keyboardist Toshitsugu Nishihara, bassist Takao Oshima, drummer Keiichi Hiroishi. Jazz Fusion
Jazz fusion (also known as fusion and progressive jazz) is a music genre that developed in the late 1960s when musicians combined jazz harmony and jazz improvisation, improvisation with rock music, funk, and rhythm and blues. Electric guitars, amplifiers, and keyboards that were popular in rock and roll started to be used by jazz musicians, particularly those who had grown up listening to rock and roll. Summer Suspicion
is the debut single by Japanese band S. Kiyotaka & Omega Tribe released by VAP on April 21, 1983. Produced by Koichi Fujita and written by Tetsuji Hayashi and Chinfa Kan, the song is made to have a "domestic Japanese melancholy" by the request of Fujita after rejecting two previous songs by Hayashi and Kan. It peaked at 9th place on the Oricon Singles Chart in 1983. Background and release Tetsuji Hayashi, an industry veteran, was contacted by BMG Victor director Uji Okamura to be a composer for a new band called . He was introduced to producer Koichi Fujita, who had scouted the band from their performance at the 1980 Yamaha Popular Song Contest, and Hayashi was tasked to create a song for their debut.
