Shieli
Shieli ( kk, Шиелі) is a village in Kyzylorda Region, southern-central Kazakhstan. It is the administrative centre of Shieli District and the head and the only settlement of Shieli rural district (KATO code - 435230100). Population: Shieli was founded in 1904 at the time of the construction of the Orenburg–Tashkent Railway. Geography Shieli is located by the right bank of the Syr Darya river. Shieli-Telikol Canal
The Shieli-Telikol Canal ( kk, Шиелі-Телікөл Каналы), also known as "Shieli Canal" and "Telikol Canal", is an irrigation canal in the Kyzylorda Region, Kazakhstan. It connects the Telikol lakes with Shieli. Geography The canal begins in the Telikol lacustrine area at the mouth of the Sarysu river in the north. Shieli District
Shieli ( kk, Шиелі ауданы, ) is a district of Kyzylorda Region in southern Kazakhstan. The administrative center of the district is the urban-type settlement of Shieli. Population: Shieli district is located in the middle reaches of the ancient Syr Darya River. In the eastern side there are the ancient cities of Sighnaq, Bestam, known to all, in the southern side the ancient Karatau mountains stretch. Further, the Sarysu River, originating in the Arch and Telikul, is a witness to many historical events. Telikol ( kk, Телікөл; russian: Теликоль) is a lake in the Kyzylorda Region, Kazakhstan. The area of the lake lies in the Syrdariya and Shieli districts. Kyzylorda Region
Kyzylorda Region ( kk, Қызылорда облысы, translit=Qyzylorda oblysy; russian: Кызылординская область, translit=Kyzylordinskaya oblast) is a region of Kazakhstan. Its capital is the city of Kyzylorda, with a population of 234 736. The region itself has a population of 799 533. Orenburg–Tashkent Railway
The broad gauge Trans-Aral Railway (also known as the Tashkent Railway) was built in 1906 connecting Kinel and Tashkent, then both in the Russian Empire. For the first part of the 20th century it was the only railway connection between European Russia and Central Asia. An extensive description of the newly built railway was published in 1910. Construction history There were plans to construct the Orenburg–Tashkent line as early as 1874. Construction work did not start, however, until the autumn of 1900. The railway was simultaneously built from both ends toward a common junction. It opened in January 1906, linking the existing network of Russian and European railways to the Trans-Caspian Railway. On January 1, 1905, the Kinel– Orenburg section of the Samara–Zlatoust line was joined to the Tashkent railway.
