Shi Islet
Shi Islet (; also Shi Yu,, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Shih Yü,, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Shiyu, Shiyu Islet and Lion Islet) is an islet located northwest of Lesser Kinmen (Lieyu) in Lieyu Township, Kinmen County (Quemoy), Fujian Province, Republic of China (Taiwan). Military personnel are stationed on Shi Islet. The islet was originally named Shu Islet ( zh, t=鼠嶼, p=Shǔ Yǔ, l=rat islet, labels=no). The present name is given by Chiang Ching-kuo during his visits to military bases in Kinmen, this is adopted in 1960. History After 0:00 AM on July 7, 1953, People's Liberation Army 31st Army 92nd Division landed on Shu Islet to start an attack to ROC troop, leading 3 killed and 4 captured. Lieyu
Lieyu Township (Liehyu) (; pinyin: ''Lièyǔ Xiāng''; Hokkien Pe̍h-ōe-jī, POJ: ''Lia̍t-sū-hiong'') is a Township (Taiwan), rural township in Kinmen, Kinmen County (Quemoy), Fujian Province, Republic of China, Fujian Province, Taiwan, Republic of China (Taiwan). Sampan
A sampan is a relatively flat-bottomed Chinese and Malay wooden boat. Some sampans include a small shelter on board and may be used as a permanent habitation on inland waters. The design closely resembles Western hard chine boats like the scow or punt. Sampans are generally used for transportation in coastal areas or rivers and are often used as traditional fishing boats. It is unusual for a sampan to sail far from land, as they do not have the means to survive rough weather. Some think that "sampan" is the Cantonese pronunciation of the Chinese word 舢舨, or "shan-ban" in "Pinyin" (standard) pronunciation). Of the two characters, "舢" (shan, literally "mountain-like") means ocean-going large ship, and "舨" (ban, literally "return") means small boat for shuttling between the ship and shore. Fujian
Fujian (; alternately romanized as Fukien or Hokkien) is a province on the southeastern coast of China. Fujian is bordered by Zhejiang to the north, Jiangxi to the west, Guangdong to the south, and the Taiwan Strait to the east. Kinmen Daily News
''Kinmen Daily News'' (KMDN; ) is a newspaper owned by Kinmen County Government in Kinmen County (Quemoy), Fujian Province, Republic of China (Taiwan). History The predecessor of the Kinmen Daily News was ''Chunghwa Cheng Chi Pao'' (, Zhōnghuá-zhèngqìbào) from Nancheng, Jiangxi, which retreated to Quemoy following the Chinese civil war. ''Kinmen Daily News'' started publishing on October 31, 1965. From November 7, 1992 onwards, the operation of two newspapers were split. ''Chunghwa Cheng Chi Pao'' was changed into a weekly paper, and is distributed to the military on Quemoy. Ho Cheng (Taiwan)
Zheng He (; 1371–1433 or 1435) was a Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat, fleet admiral, and court eunuch during China's early Ming dynasty. He was originally born as Ma He in a Muslim family and later adopted the surname Zheng conferred by the Yongle Emperor. Commissioned by the Yongle Emperor and later the Xuande Emperor, Zheng commanded seven expeditionary treasure voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Asia, and East Africa from 1405 to 1433. According to legend, his larger ships carried hundreds of sailors on four decks and were almost twice as long as any wooden ship ever recorded. As a favorite of the Yongle Emperor, whom Zheng assisted in the overthrow of the Jianwen Emperor, he rose to the top of the imperial hierarchy and served as commander of the southern capital Nanjing.
