Sherry Hormann
Sherry Hormann (born 20 April 1960) is a German-American film director. Hormann is best known for her movies ''Guys and Balls'' (2004), '' Desert Flower'' (2009) and '' 3096 Days'' (2013). Hormann was born in the United States, but moved to Germany in 1966, when she was six years old. She attended the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF) and mainly works in German cinema. She was married to film director Dominik Graf. In October 2011, she married cinematographer Michael Ballhaus; he died in April 2017. Kingston, New York
Kingston is a Administrative divisions of New York#City, city in and the county seat of Ulster County, New York, United States. It is north of New York City and south of Albany, New York, Albany. The city's metropolitan area is grouped with the New York metropolitan area around Manhattan by the United States Census Bureau. The population was 24,069 at the 2020 United States Census. ''A Regular Woman'' (german: Nur eine Frau) is a 2019 German biographical film directed by Sherry Hormann. It is based on the life of Hatun "Aynur" Sürücü who was killed by her brother in an honor killing. Hormann stated that by 2019 people were "increasingly fencing ourselves in", so she decided to make the film. The film is narrated by an actress playing Sürücü. The characters, in the initial scene, speak Turkish until one breaks the fourth wall and acknowledges that the viewers cannot comprehend their speech, before the characters switch to German, the primary medium of the film. The film includes some video footage of the real Sürücü with her boyfriend. Reception Alissa Simon of ''Variety'' wrote that it "owes much to its fine cast and impeccable technical package." Michael Ballhaus, A.S.C. (5 August 1935 – 12 April 2017) was a German cinematographer who collaborated with directors such as Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Martin Scorsese, Mike Nichols and James L. Brooks. He was a member of both the Academy of Arts, Berlin, and the American Society of Cinematographers. Life and career Ballhaus was born in Berlin as the son of German actors and . His uncle was actor and director Carl Ballhaus. Ballhaus was influenced by family friend Max Ophüls, and appeared as an extra in Ophüls' last film ''Lola Montès'' (1955).
