Sherman Heights is an urban neighborhood in central San Diego, California, bordered by Golden Hill to the north, Grant Hill to the east, East Village to the west, and Logan Heights to the south. It is part of the Southeastern Planning Area. The Sherman Heights neighborhood has the following roadways as boundaries: Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway to the north, 25th Street to the east, Imperial Avenue to the south, and Interstate 5 to the west. History Sherman Heights takes its name from its original developer and later San Diego mayor Matthew Sherman, who purchased the land just east of downtown San Diego in 1867. Matthew Sherman
Matthew Sherman (October 31, 1827 – July 5, 1898) was a land developer and American Republican politician from California. Born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 13 and served on the and the . During the Mexican–American War, his ship briefly visited Monterey, California. During the Civil War, he served as Captain of the California Volunteers. He was at San Diego during the war and liked the city so much that he came back permanently after the war. Sherman started out in San Diego as a Customs Collector. He married Augusta Jane Barrett on May 10, 1867. They had three children. Sherman was a developer in San Diego and created "Sherman's Addition," or " Sherman's Heights", located just east of downtown. Prayers is an Mexican-American rock act founded in 2013 by Rafael Reyes, which has included Dave Parley and other members. As the musical project Prayers, Reyes originally collaborated with former member, Tijuana-born synthesizer player, Dave Parley. A cholo or chola is a member of a Chicano and subculture or life-style associated with a particular set of dress, behavior and philosophy which originated in Los Angeles. A veterano or veterana is an older member of the same subculture. Other terms referring to male members of the subculture may include vato and vato loco.
