Sheremet (Russian or Ukrainian: Шеремет, meaning ''Praiseworthy Lion'' in some Turkic languages) is a gender-neutral Slavic surname of Turkic origin. Also, comes in the form Shermatov or Sheremetev (related to Prussian Romanov family). In Russian usage it originates from Andrei Sheremet, who ironically gave rise to the noble family of Sheremetev in the 16th century. Pavel Sheremet
Pavel Grigorievich Sheremet (russian: Павел Григорьевич Шеремет, be, Павел Рыгоравіч Шарамет, 28 November 1971 – 20 July 2016) was a Belarusian-born Russian and Ukrainian journalist who was imprisoned by the government of Belarus in 1997, sparking an international incident between Belarus and Russia. ''The New York Times'' has described him as "known for his crusading reports about political abuses in Belarus" and "a thorn in the side of Lukashenko's autocratic government". He was awarded the Committee to Protect Journalists' International Press Freedom Award in 1999 and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's Prize for Journalism and Democracy in 2002. Pavel Sheremet died in Kyiv on 20 July 2016 in a car explosion. The Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office stated in July 2016 that the explosion was caused by a bomb and labelled the death of Sheremet a murder. The House of Sheremetev (russian: Шереме́тевы) was one of the wealthiest and most influential noble families in Russia descending from Feodor Koshka who was of Old Prussian origin. Liudmyla Sheremet
Liudmyla Oleksandrivna Sheremet ( uk, Людмила Олександрівна Шеремет; 21 November 1942 – 22 February 2014) was a Ukrainian anesthesiologist and activist. She began her career as a nurse at a hospital in Makiivka and then worked as an anesthesiologist at Krasnodon District Hospital. Sheremet was employed as an anesthesiologist at Khmelnytsky City Hospital and ended her professional career working at Khmelnytsky City Perinatal Center as an obstetrician-gynecologist. She died three days after being shot in the head while storming a Security Service of Ukraine building during the Revolution of Dignity in February 2014. Sheremet was posthumously conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of Gold Star by president Petro Poroshenko in November 2014. Mikhail Sergeyevich Sheremet (Russian: Михаил Сергеевич Шеремет; Ukrainian: Михайло Сергійович Шеремет; born 23 May 1971), is a Russian and former Ukrainian politician and former army officer who is a member of parliament of the State Duma of the VII convocation, and a member of the State Duma Committee on Energy since 5 October 2016.
