Shenton Avenue is an east-west distributor road in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Joondalup. The road primarily links Joondalup's coastal suburbs with the Joondalup central business district, which it passes through. It is also an entrance to the Mitchell Freeway. A portion of Shenton Avenue passes through the main centre of the city of Joondalup, providing quick access to Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City and Joondalup Health Campus. City Of Joondalup
The City of Joondalup is a local government area in Perth, Western Australia. Its central business district is located in the suburb Joondalup, and it includes the town centres of Hillarys and Warwick. History Prior to the 1970s, the region now known as the City of Joondalup was sparsely populated. During the 1980s and 1990s, massive growth occurred, partly due to State Government policies which made Joondalup a regional centre, including the extension of the Mitchell Freeway and the construction of the Joondalup railway line. Until 1998, the area had been controlled by the City of Wanneroo and its predecessors. An independent commission suggested the creation of Joondalup out of the coastal areas of Wanneroo, and the City of Joondalup came into existence on 1 July 1998. Etymology Heathridge was chosen as the suburb name because of the heath type vegetation growing on the sand ridges of the area, as well as its isolation from the Perth central business district. Joondalup () is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, approximately north of Perth's central business district. It contains the central business district of the regional City of Joondalup and acts as the primary urban centre of Perth's outer northern suburbs. Joondalup Health Campus is the largest health care facility in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. The 722-bed hospital has featured combined public and private services since 1996. In March 2013, the new Joondalup Private Hospital opened next to the existing hospital, within the same campus. The public and private hospitals share the emergency department, operating theatres and intensive care facilities. Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City is a major shopping centre located in Joondalup, a suburb in the north of Perth. It is adjacent to the Joondalup railway station, and is currently the third largest shopping centre in Western Australia after Westfield Carousel and Karrinyup Shopping Centre.
