Sheldon High School is a rural state school, public high school in Sheldon, Iowa, serving students of the Sheldon Community School District in grades 9-12. The school mascot is the Orab, a portmanteau of the school colors, orange and black. Athletic competitions have taken place in the Siouxland Conference since 2009, when the school moved from the Lakes Conference (Iowa), Lakes Conference. Sheldon is a city in O'Brien County, Iowa, O'Brien and Sioux County, Iowa, Sioux counties in the U.S. state of Iowa, along the Floyd River. The population was 5,512 at the time of the United States Census 2020, 2020 census; it is the largest city in O'Brien County. The ''Telegraph Herald'', locally referred to as the ''TH'', is a daily newspaper published in Dubuque, Iowa, for the population of Dubuque and surrounding areas in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The newspaper is the result of a 1901 merger of the ''Dubuque Herald'' and the ''Dubuque Telegraph''. A descendant of the ''Dubuque Visitor'' (founded in 1836), the ''Dubuque Herald''s first editor was Dennis Mahony. Robert Lee Vander Plaats (born April 12, 1963) is an American politician and political activist. Since 2010, he has been the president and CEO of The Family Leader, a socially conservative organization in Iowa. Active in Republican Party politics, Vander Plaats ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Iowa in 2002, 2006, and 2010. Tom Brands
Tom Brands (born April 9, 1968) is an American former Olympic wrestler and is currently the head coach of the University of Iowa men's wrestling team. He won a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. An intense competitor, Brands' wrestling career with the University of Iowa included a record of 158-7-2 and an undefeated season in 1991 where he was 45–0. He was a four-time All-American, three-time NCAA Champion, three-time Big Ten Conference champion, and Outstanding Wrestler at the 1992 NCAA tournament. KTIV (channel 4) is a television station in Sioux City, Iowa, United States, affiliated with NBC and The CW Plus. Owned by Gray Media, the station has studios on Signal Hill Drive in Sioux City, and its transmitter is located near Hinton, Iowa. KTIV was the second television station to be built in Sioux City.
