She (Viktor Lazlo Album)
''She'' is the first studio album by French-Belgian singer Viktor Lazlo. The album consists of several original jazz pop compositions and includes two cover versions, the first one being Rita Hayworth's Put the Blame on Mame and a French version of the Julie London song Cry Me a River, entitled ''Pleurer Des Rivieres''. The song was successful on the French single charts peaking at No. 27. Seven songs were eventually released as a single off the album: ''Backdoorman'', ''Last Call For An Angel'', ''Loser'' and ''Sweet, Soft'N'Lazy'', which although it never charted anywhere became quite successful. Another single, ''Canoë Rose'', however was successful in Belgium, peaking at No. 33 on the single charts, and in France, peaking at No. 14. "Put the Blame on Mame" is a song by Allan Roberts and Doris Fisher, originally written for the classic film noir ''Gilda'' (1946) in which it was sung by the title character, played by Rita Hayworth with the singing voice of Anita Kert Ellis dubbed in. In keeping with the film character Gilda being "the ultimate femme fatale", the song sung by her in two scenes facetiously credits the amorous activities of a woman named "Mame" as the true cause of three well-known cataclysmic events in American history: The Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the Great Blizzard of 1888 in New York City and the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Pierre Van Dormael
Pierre Van Dormael (24 May 1952 – 3 September 2008) was a Belgian jazz guitarist and composer. In 1988, he played in the James Baldwin Project with David Linx and Deborah Brown (vocalists), Slide Hampton (trombone), Diederik Wissels (piano), Bob Stewart (tuba), and Michel Hatzigeorgiou (bass guitar). Van Dormael was also a member of Nasa Na Band, a jazz band known as the precursor of Aka Moon. "Cry Me a River" is a popular American torch song, written by Arthur Hamilton, first published in 1953 and made famous in 1955 with the version by Julie London. Origins and early recordings Arthur Hamilton later said of the song: "I had never heard the phrase. I just liked the combination of words... Instead of 'Eat your heart out' or 'I'll get even with you,' it sounded like a good, smart retort to somebody who had hurt your feelings or broken your heart." Julie London (née Peck; September 26, 1926 – October 18, 2000) was an American singer and actress whose career spanned more than 40 years. A torch singer noted for her sultry, languid contralto vocals, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. ''Viktor Lazlo'' is the self-titled second studio album by French-Belgian singer Viktor Lazlo. Belgium was responsible to host the Eurovision Song Contest after Sandra Kim had won in 1986 with her song J'aime la vie. Lazlo was asked to host the event as she is fluent in several languages and thus her self-titled album became very successful all over Europe, entering the Top 20 album charts in Holland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It spent 19 weeks on the German album charts.
