William Henry Shaw High School is located in Columbus, Georgia, United States. It opened in 1978 at its present location in the Northern Columbus area. Students began attending classes in September of the same year. The school is named in honor of former Muscogee County School District Superintendent William Henry Shaw. Its original proposed name was Schomburg North High School. Although Shaw is one of the newer high schools in Columbus, it has achieved academic and athletic success in its short history. Academically, Shaw High School was named a "School of Excellence" by the Georgia Department of Education in 1984 and 2005. In 2005, Shaw High School was also a recipient of the State of Georgia Platinum Award: Greatest Gain in Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards. McEvans Warriors K-12 School
McEvans Warriors K-12 School, formerly Shaw High School, is a public K-12 school in Shaw, Mississippi. It is a part of the West Bolivar Consolidated School District. Until 2014 it was in the Shaw School District, which served Shaw and Skene. History The former Shaw High School building was first built in 1923. it had 158 students. Leland School District offers vocational training to Shaw High School students. McEvans Negro High School formerly existed. In 1958 the school had almost 1,000 students. The building was destroyed in a fire in 1958, causing about $115,000 in damages. Both Shaw High and McEvans Elementary were in the Shaw School District until July 1, 2014, when that district was consolidated into West Bolivar Consolidated. At one point the condition of the Shaw High building, at 214 Dean Boulevard, deteriorated to the point where the high school moved in with McEvans Elementary School. Archbishop Shaw High School is an Archdiocesan school administered under the Salesians of St. John Bosco. It is approved by the Louisiana State Department of Education and the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. Founded in 1962, it is located in Marrero, Louisiana, and is part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans. History Archbishop John W. Shaw, whose leadership of the Archdiocese New Orleans ran from 1918 to 1934, had a special interest in the Catholic community of the West Bank. Shaw Junior High School, now known as Asbury Dwellings, is an historic structure located in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It has been listed on the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites and on the National Register of Historic Places since 2008. History The school was named after Robert Gould Shaw, who led the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, one of the first official African American units during the American Civil War. From 1902 until 1928 the building housed the William McKinley Manual Training School. It was a school for white students and opened the same time as Armstrong Manual Training School for African Americans. They were part of an educational trend that began in the late 19th century of developing schools that taught industrial education along with the more traditional academic curriculum that prepared students for college.
