Shaun Meachem
Shaun Myles Meachem (born October 9, 1979 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian curler from Cabri, Saskatchewan. Curling career Meachem grew up in Mayerthorpe, Alberta. He played on a number of teams in Alberta before moving to Saskatchewan in 2009. While in Alberta, Meachem won two World Curling Tour events: the Rainbow Cashspiel in 2004, playing lead for Rob Armitage and again in 2005 playing second for Chris Schille. After moving to Saskatchewan, Meachem began curling competitively again in 2012, playing third for Max Kirkpatrick. Meachem played in his first Saskatchewan men's provincial at the 2013 SaskTel Tankard, but the Kirkpatrick rink would not make the playoffs. The next season, they again failed to make the playoffs at the 2014 SaskTel Tankard. Meachem won the 2014 Saskatchewan Mixed Curling Championship with teammates Kelly Wood, Carl deConinck Smith and Kelsey Dutton. Cory Heggestad
Cory Heggestad (born February 4, 1973 in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from Barrie, Ontario. He currently skips a team on the World Curling Tour. Heggestad is a former Canadian Mixed Curling Champion. At the 2013 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, he skipped a rink that included Heather Graham, Greg Balsdon and Amy MacKay to a national championship for Ontario. After posting a 9-2 round robin record, the team beat Quebec (skipped by Mike Fournier) and then Nova Scotia ( Brent MacDougall) to claim the championship. The team represented Ontario once again at the 2014 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, finishing the round robin tied for third with an 8-3 record. After beating New Brunswick's Sylvie Robichaud rink in a tie breaker, the team beat Saskatchewan's Shaun Meachem in the semi-final before losing to Alberta's Darren Moulding in the final. Adam Casey (curler)
Adam Adrian Casey (born August 28, 1989) is a Canadian curler originally from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He currently skips his own team. Career As a junior, Casey played in Prince Edward Island as the third on the Brett Gallant junior men's team. As a member of the team, Casey won 5 straight provincial junior championships from 2006 to 2010 inclusively. In 2007, they won a bronze medal at the Canada Winter Games. The team won the 2009 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and won a silver medal at the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships. After juniors in 2010, Casey moved to Nova Scotia to play third for the Chris Sutherland rink. The team made it to the 2011 Nova Scotia Men's Molson Provincial Championship, but they were eliminated before the playoffs. 2016 Humpty's Champions Cup
The 2016 Humpty's Champions Cup was held from April 26 to May 1 at the Sherwood Park Arena Sports Centre in Sherwood Park, Alberta. This was the final Grand Slam event of the 2015–16 curling season and is the seventh men's Grand Slam and the sixth women's Grand Slam of the season. The teams were split into 3 round-robin pools of 5 teams each, and the top eight teams overall will qualify for the playoff round. Teams from the Winnipeg area won both the men's and women's events, with Reid Carruthers winning his first slam as a skip on the men's side and Jennifer Jones winning her 12th slam on the women's side. Both Carruthers and Jones happened to qualify for the Champions Cup by winning the same event, the DeKalb Superspiel. Grand Slam Of Curling
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. The Grand Slam season consists of six men's and women's events. The original four events (Masters, Open, National, and Players' Championship) are considered to be "majors". Steve Laycock
Stephen "Steve" Laycock (born October 29, 1982 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from Saskatoon. He currently skips his own team out of Saskatoon. Career In 2003, Laycock skipped Team Saskatchewan to a Canadian Junior Curling Championship and a World Junior Curling Championship. Until 2007 he tried repeatedly to skip a team to the provincial men's championship in 2004, 2005 and 2006, but was unsuccessful in all of his attempts. In 2006 he joined up with Pat Simmons as his lead, and finally won a provincial championship with him in 2007. He would win again in 2008 and once more in 2011, this time throwing third stones and calling the game for Simmons. Simmons left the team at the end of the 2010-11 season, leaving Laycock to find a replacement third. Laycock announced the addition of Joel Jordison to his team for the 2011-2012 season. The Saville Shootout is an annual curling tournament, held in September at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. It is part of the women's tour since 2006 and is one of the first events of the year. The men's event was discontinued after 2015 but was brought back in 2023. It had been running since 2004. Catlin Schneider (born October 17, 1991) is a Canadian curler from Regina, Saskatchewan. Career Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Schneider was a two-sport athlete at university, playing both football and curling for the University of Regina. In football, Schneider was a wide receiver. In curling, he skipped the University of Regina curling team at the 2014 CIS/CCA Curling Championships on home ice. There, he led his team of Mathew Ring, Rory McCusker and Brendan Ryan to a 2-5 record, missing the playoffs. After university, Schneider joined the Brent Gedak team in 2014, throwing third stones on the team.
