Shanlin District
Shanlin District () is a suburban district of Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan. Hakka is one of the major population centers in this area. History After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, Shanlin was organized as a rural township of Kaohsiung County. On 25 December 2010, Kaohsiung County was merged with Kaohsiung City and Shanlin was upgraded to a district of the city. In August 2019, some residents living in high-risk areas of Shanlin District were evacuated from their homes after heavy rain and flash flooding. District (Taiwan)
Districts are administrative subdivisions of the Taiwan, Republic of China (Taiwan)'s special municipality (Taiwan), special municipalities of the second level and provincial city (Taiwan), provincial cities of the third level formerly under its Provinces of China, provinces. There are two types of district in the administrative scheme. Ordinary districts are governed directly by the municipality/city government with district administrators appointed by the mayors to four-year terms. Lin Yu-fang
Lin Yu-fang (; born 15 March 1951) is a Taiwanese politician. Lin was a Kuomintang legislator from 2008 to 2016 and the chairman of the Legislative Yuan's Diplomacy and National Defense Committee. Shanlin Confucius Temple
The term shanlin () was frequently used to describe bandits in northeast China from the time of the Qing dynasty, because they knew the local wooded and mountainous terrain very well. Most operated in a fairly small district and took pains to maintain the goodwill of local peasants. As a result, government troops had great difficulty in suppressing them. After the Republic of China was founded, they often were recruited as soldiers to end their bandit career. It was a term frequently used later for remnants of the Anti-Japanese Volunteer Armies that resisted the Japanese invasion of Northeastern China in the Second Sino-Japanese War. Some did not flee after the defeat of the armies and fought on as small guerrilla units, called shanlin. Postal codes () in Taiwan is a system of three + three digits used by Chunghwa Post. There are 368 sets of three-digit codes for townships, county-administered cities, and districts in Taiwan. The cities of Chiayi and Hsinchu have a single code covering all their districts. The uninhabited islands Pratas (Dongsha) and Spratly (Nansha) each have a single code. The uninhabited Senkaku Islands (Diaoyutai) (administered by Japan) have a code, but there are no deliveries.
