Shane McGuckin
Shane McGuckin (born 1969) is an Irish retired hurler who played for club sides St Rynagh's and Naomh Éanna and at inter-county level with the Offaly senior hurling team. Career Born in Banagher, County Offaly, McGuckin first came to prominence on the St. Rynagh's club side that won four County Championship title in six seasons between 1987 and 1993. The last of these was converted into a Leinster Club Championship title. Success at club level saw McGuckin drafted onto the Offaly senior team during the 1990-91 National League. He collected his first silverware with the team in 1994 when Offaly won the Leinster Championship before ending the season as an All-Ireland Championship-winner after a defeat of Limerick in the final. McGuckin won a second successive provincial title the following year before captaining the team for the 1996 season. His son, Charlie McGuckin, has lined out for the Wexford senior hurling team. St Rynagh's GAA
St Rynagh's ( ga, Naomh Raghnach) is the name of two Gaelic Athletic Association sister clubs that encompass the towns of Cloghan and Banagher in County Offaly, in Ireland. The St Rynagh's Football Club is based in Cloghan and wear green and white hooped jerseys; the St Rynagh's Hurling Club is based in Banagher and wear blue and gold jerseys. Formed in 1961, to represent the parish of Cloghan and Banagher, the club gained almost immediate success - winning the senior hurling championship in 1965. The St Rynagh's Hurling Club went on to appear in three All-Ireland club hurling finals during the next 30 years. St Rynagh's has also supplied three of Offaly's four All-Ireland Hurling Championship winning captains, namely Padraig Horan, Martin Hanamy and Hubert Rigney. Charlie McGuckin
Charlie McGuckin (born 1999) is an Irish hurler who plays for club side Naomh Éanna and at inter-county level with the Wexford senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a forward. Career Son of Offaly All-Ireland-winner Shane, McGuckin first played at juvenile and underage levels with the Naomh Éanna club before progressing onto the senior team. He won a Wexford SHC title in 2018 after beating St. Martin's in the final. McGuckin first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Wexford minor hurling team in 2017 before later captaining the under-20 team. He was drafted onto the Wexford senior hurling team for the 2022 season. Johnny Pilkington
Johnny Pilkington (born 31 July 1970) is an Irish former hurler who played as a right wing-forward for the Offaly senior hurling team. Pilkington made his first appearance for the team during the 1988–89 National League and subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 2001 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals, four Leinster, one National Hurling League medal and one All-Star award. Pilkington was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. At club level Pilkington is one of only a handful of players to have won four All-Ireland medals. In addition to this he has also won six Leinster medals and eight county club championship medals with Birr. Pilkington's older brother, Declan, also played hurling with Offaly. The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1995 (known for the first time for sponsorship reasons as the Guinness Hurling Championship 1995) was the 109th staging of Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Clare won the championship, beating Offaly 1-13 to 2-8 in the final at Croke Park, Dublin, it was their first All-Ireland win since 1914. Following the success of this deal it was decided that the hurling championship could also benefit from sponsorship. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1994 was the 108th staging of Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Offaly won the championship, beating Limerick 3-16 to 2-13 in a sensational final at Croke Park, Dublin. Pre-championship Prior to the opening of the championship Kilkenny were installed as the favourites to retain the All-Ireland title for a third consecutive year. The last time they achieved this was in 1913, however, no final took place that year and Kilkenny were awarded the title as Limerick refused to play. Since then they failed to capture the 'three-in-a-row', in spite of having the opportunity in 1933, 1976 and 1984.
