Shane McEleney (born 31 January 1991) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a centre back for League of Ireland Premier Division side Derry City Playing career Derry City McEleney signed his first professional contract under manager Stephen Kenny in 2010. He won 3 trophies with his home town club alongside his brother Patrick McEleney. Ottawa Fury In December 2016, McEleney signed with Ottawa Fury FC in the United Soccer League. Larne McEleney joined Larne in January 2018 and helped the club to the 2018/19 Championship title, playing on the right of a back three. Derry, officially Londonderry (), is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fifth-largest city on the island of Ireland. The name ''Derry'' is an anglicisation of the Old Irish name (modern Irish: ) meaning 'oak grove'. 2011 League Of Ireland Cup
The 2011 League of Ireland Cup, also known as the 2011 EA Sports Cup, was the 38th season of the League of Ireland Cup knockout competition. The competition was won by Derry City who defeated Cork City in the final on 24 September 2011 in Turners Cross. A total of 27 teams entered the 2011 competition. The ten Premier Division and eleven First Division clubs were joined by four A Championship teams plus the 2010 Ulster Senior League champions, Cockhill Celtic and the Kerry District League representative side. For the Preliminary, First and Second Rounds of the competition, all participating clubs were split into 4 regional pools with the further rounds of the competition having an open draw. NIFL Championship
The Northern Ireland Football League Championship (known as the Lough 41 Championship for sponsorship reasons) is the second level of the Northern Ireland Football League, the national football league in Northern Ireland. The 2023 President's Cup was the ninth edition of the President's Cup contested for. The match was played on 10 February between the champions of the 2022 League of Ireland Premier Division and the 2022 FAI Cup winners, Shamrock Rovers and Derry City. Summary Derry City won the game 2-0 with first half goals from Will Patching and Michael Duffy to win the cup for the first time. The opening goal came after 23 minutes when Patching shot to the net from 10 yards out after a low pass from Duffy from the left. The President of Ireland's Cup, also known simply as the President's Cup, is an association football super cup featuring clubs from the Republic of Ireland football league system. It is a one-off match between the winners of the previous season's League of Ireland Premier Division and the FAI Cup, and similarly to the FA Community Shield in England, functions both as a domestic Super cup and a unofficial opener to the football season in Ireland.
