Shady, Oregon
Shady is an unincorporated community in Douglas County, Oregon, United States. It is about two miles south of Roseburg on a stretch of Oregon Route 99 also known as the Oakland-Shady Highway. Shady is outside Roseburg's urban growth boundary, but it does have sewer service. Because of sewer availability, Douglas County considers Shady an "urban unincorporated area". It is next to the South Umpqua River. Douglas County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 111,201. The county seat is Roseburg. The county is named after Stephen A. Oregon Route 99 is a state highway that runs between the southern border of Oregon, and the city of Junction City. Oregon Route 99 was formed from parts of the former U.S. Route 99; it shares much of its route with I-5, but much of it is also independent. An urban growth boundary, or UGB, is a regional boundary, set in an attempt to control urban sprawl by, in its simplest form, mandating that the area inside the boundary be used for urban development and the area outside be preserved in its natural state or used for agriculture. South Umpqua River
The South Umpqua River is a tributary of the Umpqua River, approximately long, in southwestern Oregon in the United States. It drains part of the Cascade Range east of Roseburg. The river passes through a remote canyon in its upper reaches then emerges in the populated South Umpqua Valley east of Canyonville.
