Sha-ri Pendleton
Sha-ri Pendleton (born December 5, 1963) is an American hurdler, javelin thrower, and bodybuilder of the mid-to-late 1980s. Under the stage name Blaze, she competed as a gladiator on the American TV show '' American Gladiators'' from 1989-92. Biography At the age of 12, Pendleton joined the West Vernon Jets track and field team in Los Angeles, California. She initially competed in the 220 and 440 events, later adding the 200 and 400 meter events. In high school, she added hurdles, winning the city championships two years in a row. At the age of 16, she began weight lifting. After graduating high school, Pendleton enrolled in the University of Nebraska on an athletic scholarship. Following her graduation from college, she returned to California, where she was coached by Bob Kersee and trained with the World Class Track Club of UCLA. American Gladiators (1989 TV Series)
''American Gladiators'' is an American competition television program that aired weekly in syndication from September 1989 to May 1996. The series matched a cast of amateur athletes against each other, as well as against the show's own "gladiators", in contests of strength and agility. The concept was originally created in 1982 by Johnny C. Ferraro and Dan Carr. Carr gathered the Gladiators and hosted the show, and Ferraro financed and produced the original competition at Erie Tech High School in Erie, Pennsylvania so Ferraro could have the event on film as to shop the new creation. In 1983 Ferraro financed, developed and packaged the American Gladiators as a movie project. In 1984 Carr sold his interest in a literary purchase to Flor-Jon Films. Hurdler
Hurdling is the act of jumping over an obstacle at a high speed or in a sprint. In the early 19th century, hurdlers ran at and jumped over each hurdle (sometimes known as 'burgles'), landing on both feet and checking their forward motion. Today, the dominant step patterns are the 3-step for high hurdles, 7-step for low hurdles, and 15-step for intermediate hurdles. Hurdling is a highly specialized form of obstacle racing, and is part of the sport of athletics. In hurdling events, barriers known as hurdles are set at precisely measured heights and distances. Bill Dobbins (born 1943) is an American photographer who specializes in bodybuilding, physique and fitness photography. In particular, Dobbins is well known for his work in photographing female bodybuilders and has published two books of images on the subject, ''The Women'' and ''Modern Amazons''. Dobbins was associated with Ben Weider and bodybuilding organizations such as the IFBB and NPC. Dobbins is also an author and writer for physique magazines.
