Seychelles Polytechnic
Seychelles Polytechnic is a government-owned tertiary institution located in Anse Royale, Mahé. The institution currently offer three programme areas in Business & Secretarial Studies, Visual Arts and the Manchester Twinning Programme, a first-year degree programme obtained in partnership with the University of Manchester. History The institution was inaugurated on 24 January 1983 by France-Albert René as a post-secondary education and training with courses initially totalling eleven. In 2005, Seychelles Institute of Technology was formed from the old Technical Programme Area and the School of Advanced Level Studies replaced the Academic Programme Area. Mahé, Seychelles
Mahé is the largest island of Seychelles, with an area of , lying in the northeast of the Seychellean nation in the Somali Sea part of the Indian Ocean. The population of Mahé was 77,000, as of the 2010 census. It contains the capital city of Victoria and accommodates 86% of the country's total population. The island was named after Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais, a French governor of Isle de France (modern-day Mauritius). History Mahé was first visited by the British in 1609 and not visited by Europeans again until Lazare Picault's expedition of 1742. France-Albert René
France-Albert René (; 16 November 1934 – 27 February 2019) was a Seychellois lawyer, politician and statesman who served as the second President of Seychelles from 1977 to 2004. He also served as the country's 2nd Prime Minister from its independence in 1976 to 1977. He was nicknamed by Seychellois government officials and fellow party members as "the Boss". His name is often given as simply Albert René or F.A. René; he was also nicknamed Ti France. Early life France-Albert was born to Price René, a plantation manager and administrator, and Luisa Morgan René, a seamstress, on 16 November 1934 in Victoria, on the island of Mahe, Crown Colony of Seychelles, but spent early childhood on Farquhar. Jean-Paul Adam
Jean-Paul Adam (born 12 June 1977) is a Seychellois politician. He serves as Minister of Health and Social Affairs in the Cabinet of Seychelles until 30 October 2020. He previously served as Minister of Finance, Trade & The Blue Economy from 2015 to 2016, and, before that, as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2015. Education and teaching Adams received his early education in Seychelles. He then travelled to the UK, where he obtained a BA (Hons) in English literature and French at the University of Sheffield. After which, he proceeded to complete his MA in international political economy at the University of Manchester. Rolph Antoine Payet FRGS (born 4 August 1968) is an international policy expert, researcher and speaker on environment, climate and island issues, and was the first President & Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles. He was Minister of Environment and Energy in the Cabinet of Seychelles from 2012 to 2014. He is currently United Nations Executive Secretary for the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Convention. Personal life Payet was born in Seychelles. He grew up in Rochon, a suburb of the capital, Victoria. As young boy he dreamed of becoming a scientist.
