Andrei Severny (astronomer)
Andrei Borisovich Severny (Russian: Андрей Борисович Северный; 11 May 1913, Tula, Russia, Tula – 3 April 1987, Bakhchysarai Raion) was a Soviet astronomer, particularly known for his work on solar flares and astronomical observations from artificial satellites. He was director of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory from 1952–1987 and vice-president of the International Astronomical Union from 1964 to 1970. After World War II, he was assigned to the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, Crimean Observatory, which was originally based in Simeiz, Crimea, on the Black Sea coast, and was then involved in the construction of a new observer in Naucine, in the Crimean Mountains. Severny Airport (, English: Northern airport) was a small airport in northern part of Novosibirsk, Russia. Opened in 1929, it was the only airport in Novosibirsk until Tolmachevo Airport opened in 1957. JSC "Novosibirsk Air Enterprise" was the main airline operating out of this airport, serving regional routes by An-2, An-24, An-26, An-30 The Antonov An-30 (NATO reporting name: Clank), is a development of the An-24 designed for aerial cartography. It is the second member of the Antonov An-24 family, succeeding the An-24, while preceding the An-26, An-32 and canceled An-132. D ..., and Let-410 aircraft. Following the second bankruptcy of Novosibirsk Air Enterprise (after which the airline ceased operations) in 2010, the airport closed in February 2011. 1737 Severny, provisional designation , is a stony Eoan asteroid from the outer region of the asteroid belt, approximately 21 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 13 October 1966, by Russian astronomer Lyudmila Chernykh at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in Nauchnyj, on the Crimean peninsula, who named after Soviet astronomer Andrei Severny. Severny (grape)
Severny is the name of a Russian red-grape variety. Severny results from the interspecific crossing between Seianetze Malengra and ''Vitis amurensis''. The hybrid has been obtained in the Institute for wineyard researches in Rostov-on-Don in Russia. The hybrid was crossed in 1936 by the breeder Ya. I. Potapenko and E. Zakharova in Rostov. The variety has been imported to Finger Lakes AVA, just south of Lake Ontario, in the United States. Because of the genes present in ''Vitis amurensis'', the grape is very resistant to frost. Further hybridizations have involved the Severny variety, as with the Saperavi Severnyi (with Georgian variety Saperavi) or Cabernet Severny obtentions. It is an important component for the discovery of new grape varieties that can be grown under cold climates.
