Sev (song)
Because of low points received in 1993, Turkey was unable to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994. Next year in Eurovision Song Contest 1995. Turkey was represented by Arzu Ece with the song "Sev" written by Zeynep Talu and composed by Melih Kibar. Before Eurovision 18. Eurovision Şarkı Yarışması Türkiye Finali The final took place on 18 March 1995 at the TRT Studios in Ankara, hosted by Yesmin Ertugrul and Bülend Özveren. Ten songs competed and the winner was determined by an expert jury. Although the original singer of "Sev" was Yeşim Dönüş Işın, Arzu Ece took the place of Yeşim upon the warning of the jury. At Eurovision On the night of the contest Arzu Ece performed 10th in the running order following Spain and preceding Croatia. At the close of the voting the song had received 21 points placing Turkey 16th. 7 participants had voted for Sev. Arzu Ece (born Arzu Özkaraman; 22 September 1963) is a Turkish singer, best known for her participation in the Eurovision Song Contests of 1989 and 1995. Melih Kibar (6 September 1951 – 7 April 2005) was a Turkish composer. Biography Born in Istanbul, he graduated from the German High School Istanbul and studied chemical engineering at Boğaziçi University. He received a Master's degree from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. The Eurovision Song Contest 1994 was the 39th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Dublin, Ireland, following the country's victory at the with the song "In Your Eyes" by Niamh Kavanagh. It was the first time that any country had hosted the contest two years in a row. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (RTÉ), the contest was held at the Point Theatre on 30 April 1994. Bülend Özveren
Bülend Özveren (1943 – 18 October 2022) was a Turkish television presenter and sports commentator. Özveren completed his secondary education at (Istanbul) and higher education at Galatasaray High School. He graduated from Istanbul University, faculty of Law. Özveren started working at TRT on 31 July 1965, first as a television presenter before becoming the sports commentator in 1972. From 1973 to 2012, he intermittently served as the Turkish commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest. Özveren spoke English, Japanese, Spanish and French, as well as his native Turkish. Mehmet Fatih Erkoç (born 7 April 1953) is a Turkish jazz and pop music singer and composer. Biography Fatih Erkoç is the son of Hasan Erkoç, an oud musician. Aysel Gürel
Gönül Aysel Gürel (7 February 1929 – 17 February 2008) was a Turkish lyricist and actress. Besides her lyrics, which were performed by singers throughout Turkey, she was known for her outlandish clothing, make up and wigs. Biography Aysel Gürel was born in 1929 in Denizli, Turkey, in the western part of the country. She graduated from Istanbul University with a faculty of literature degree. Her lyrics were performed by such noted Turkish singers as Sezen Aksu. Besides lyric writing, Gürel also worked as an actress, drama player and a Turkologist. in 2007, Gürel appeared in a Turkish television commercial for Pepsi. Gürel was admitted to Metropolitan Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul in December 2007. She was reportedly ill with lung cancer. Serpil Barlas
Serpil Barlas (1957 – 20 February 2021) was a Turkish actress and singer. Biography Serpil was born in Istanbul to Kazım Polat and music soloist Aysel İpar. She began her acting and singing career in the 1960s and recorded 45 different tracks between 1976 and 1978. That year, she competed to represent Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest, but was placed below the eventual representatives Nazar and Nilüfer. She then moved to the United States and lived there for 15 years. Upon her return to Turkey in 1993, the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the Bosnian Genocide had become central issues in the region. Alongside fellow musician , she recorded "Benim Adım İnsan", "Sahipsiz Çocuklar", and "Bosna", which aimed to give widespread publicity to these issues.
