Romanian (obsolete spellings: Rumanian or Roumanian; autonym: ''limba română'' , or ''românește'', ) is the official and main language of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Sergiu Băhăian alias Vasile Negrila is a Romanian businessman, convicted fraudster, and Romanian prosecutors allege, the leader of a criminal organization responsible for the killing of at least four people. Background Băhăian became notable in the 1990s when he scammed over 5000 people with bad checks though his company ''Sabina Product'', which is considered one of the biggest financial scandals in Romania during that decade. The damages were over 7 billion lei. In 1995 Băhăian fled to Hungary together with three accomplices, but he was caught, extradited, and sentenced to five years in jail in 1998. He was released in 2002. Afterward, Băhăian was nicknamed "the prince of bad checks". Sergiu Celibidache
Sergiu Celibidache (; 14 August 1996) was a Romanian conductor, composer, musical theorist, and teacher. Educated in his native Romania, and later in Paris and Berlin, Celibidache's career in music spanned over five decades, including tenures as principal conductor of the Munich Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Sicilian Symphony Orchestra and several other European orchestras. Later in life, he taught at Mainz University in Germany and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Celibidache frequently refused to release his performances on commercial recordings during his lifetime, claiming that a listener could not have a "transcendental experience" outside the concert hall. Many of the recordings of his performances were released posthumously. Sergiu Dan (; born Isidor Rotman or Rottman; December 29, 1903 – March 13, 1976) was a Romanian novelist, journalist, Holocaust survivor and political prisoner of the communist regime. Dan, the friend and collaborator of Romulus Dianu, was noted during the interwar period as a contributor to Romania's avant-garde and modernist scene, collaborating with poet Ion Vinea on ''Contimporanul'' review and ''Facla'' newspaper. He was also affiliated with the rival literary club, ''Sburătorul'', and noted for criticizing the Communism, communist sympathies of other avant-garde writers. Sergiu Floroaia (born December 1, 1984), known professionally by the mononym Sergiu, is a Romanian stand-up comedian and comedy writer. He is one of the first Romanians to be featured on Comedy Central Extra, with six comedy specials. He hosted, together with Andrei Ciobanu, the morning show on Romanian radio station Kiss FM (Romania). His style of humour is based on topical events, dark humour and the use of edgy one-liners. Sergiu started doing comedy in 2006 at an open-mic night in Cafe Deko. His early influencers were Steven Wright, Demetri Martin, Jimmy Carr and later Anthony Jeselnik. In 2013, Sergiu partnered with Andrei Ciobanu, also a comedian, and wrote "Unu-ntr-altu'" and "Mica rugăminte", two musical parody videos that became instant hits on YouTube. Sergiu Klainerman (born May 13, 1950) is a mathematician known for his contributions to the study of hyperbolic differential equations and general relativity. He is currently the Eugene Higgins Professor of Mathematics at Princeton University, where he has been teaching since 1987. Biography He was born in 1950 in Bucharest, Romania, into a Jewish family. After attending the Petru Groza High School, he studied mathematics at the University of Bucharest from 1969 to 1974. For graduate studies he went to New York University, obtaining his Ph.D. in 1978. His thesis, written under the direction of Fritz John and Louis Nirenberg, was titled ''Global Existence for Nonlinear Wave Equations''.
