Serchhip District
Serchhip District is one of the eleven districts of Mizoram state in India. The district occupies an area of 1421.60 km². Serchhip town is the administrative headquarters of the district. This district came into existence on 15 September 1998, being carved out of the larger Aizawl District. Because of the way it was created it includes part of East Lungdar Tehsil and part of Thingsulthliah Tehsil. As of 2011 census, it has the highest literacy rate in India, and is the second least populous district of Mizoram (out of 8), after Saiha. Geography The district is bounded on the north and northwest by Aizawl District, on the west and south by Lunglei District, on the southeast by Myanmar (Burma), and on the east by Champhai District. The Indian state of Mizoram is divided into 11 districts. History When Mizoram became a union territory on 21 January 1972, it was divided into three districts: Aizawl, Lunglei and Chhimtuipui. Later five more districts were carved out of the already existing three districts. Biate (town)
Biate is a census town in Khawzawl district in the state of Mizoram, India. Biate town has been selected as the cleanest town in Mizoram and Northeast. Biate is one of the oldest human settlement in Mizoram, inhabited since the 1780s and was then known as Zialung. Thenzawl
Thenzawl is a census town in Serchhip district in the Indian state of Mizoram. It is an important center for the traditional Mizo handloom industry. Thenzawl is 90 km (56 miles) from Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. History Thenzawl was a dense forest with many wild animals until it was cultivated in 1961 and inhabited. Bengkhuaia Sailo established a village in 1863 in Thenzawl. Kamlova's son, Lalngurchhina was the last chief of Thenzawl. Vantawng Falls
The Vantawng Khawhthla is located south of Thenzawl in Serchhip district in the Indian state of Mizoram. It is one of the highest waterfall in Mizoram. It is about away from Aizawl. The falls Vantawng Khawhthla or Vantawng Falls is the highest and most spectacular of the waterfalls and cascades in the fast flowing rivers of Mizoram. It is located in Vanva river near Thenzawl and is named after Vantawnga, who was said to be an excellent swimmer. So good a swimmer was Vantawnga that he could hover in the cascading water like a fish, but unfortunately, during one of such performances, a drifting log fell from above and killed him.
