Sentinel (steamboat)
''Sentinel'' was a small wooden propeller-driven steamship of the Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet. Career ''Sentinel'' was built in 1898 for the Hunt Brothers (steamboat line), Hunt Brothers, who ran a family steamboat business on Puget Sound. The Hunts ran the vessel to stops on Bay Island in southern Puget Sound, and also on a run to Seattle with mail stops on Vashon Island. The vessel was sold to Hansen Transportation Co. in 1903, rebuilt and widened so as to increase passenger capacity from 100 to 250. In 1921 Hansen Transportation sold the vessel to Ed Lorentz. In 1928, the vessel was scrapped and the engine installed in another steamboat, the Arcadia (steamboat), ''Arcadia''. Hunt Brothers (steamboat Line)
The Hunt Brothers were the owners of a steamboat business that ran on Puget Sound as part of the Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet. Five of the seven Hunt children became owners, engineers and masters of steamboats, these were Emmett E., Arthur M., Arda R., Lloyd.B., and Forest M. Hunt. Background The family originally came from Michigan and settled near Wollochet Bay in 1876. They started out in the maritime business when the oldest brother, Emmett E., rowed the mail once a week between Steilacoom, Washington, Steilacoom and Wollochet Bay, a 20-mile row. The Kitsap County Transportation Company was an important steamboat and ferry company that operated on Puget Sound. The company was founded in 1898 as the Hansen Transportation Company. Bay Island is a two mile long island situated in the North Great Neck area of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
