Sengupta
Sengupta is a surname found among Bengalis of West Bengal and Bangladesh. They belong to the Baidya caste. The surname is a compound of Sen and Gupta. Baidyas, a caste (''jāti'') of Ayurvedic physicians, along with Brahmins and Kayasthas, are regarded among the top three higher castes that comprise the "upper layer of Hindu society". In the colonial era, the Bhadraloks of Bengal were drawn from these three castes, who continue to maintain a collective hegemony in West Bengal. Apoorva Sengupta
Lieutenant General Apoorva Kumar Sengupta (3 August 1938 – 14 September 2013) was an Indian army officer and cricketer who played in one Test in 1959. Cricket career Sengupta's Test appearance came in the middle of a major controversy in Indian cricket. Ghulam Ahmed announced his retirement a few days before the Madras Test against the West Indies in 1958-59, and Vijay Manjrekar dropped out due to an injury. This led to a confusing situation where Jasu Patel, A. G. Kripal Singh, Manohar Hardikar and Sengupta were all considered. Barun Sengupta ( bn, বরুণ সেনগুপ্ত) (23 January 1934 – 19 June 2008), the founder-editor of ''Bartaman'' newspaper, was a Bengali journalist and popular political critic. Achintya Kumar Sengupta (born 19 September 1903 – 29 January 1976) was an Indian Bengali-language poet, story writer, novelist, biographer and editor. Life He was born in Noakhali, now in Bangladesh. At the age of 13, after his father's death, Sengupta moved to Calcutta, where he completed his schooling. He got a B. A. Honours degree from South Suburban College in English, followed by an M. Anita Sengupta is an American aerospace engineer. She is a graduate in aerospace and mechanical engineering (MS '00, Ph.D. '05) of the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California. Baidya or Vaidya is a Hindu community located in Bengal. Baidyas, a caste (''jāti'') of Ayurvedic physicians, have long had pre-eminence in society alongside Brahmins and Kayasthas.
