Sengskroken Church
Sengskroken Church ( no, Sengskroken kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Karlsøy Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located on the western coast of the island of Vanna (also known as Vannøya). It is an annex church for the Karlsøy parish which is part of the Tromsø domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church (originally it was a "chapel") was built in a long church style in 1962 by the architect Knut P. Bugge. The church seats about 225 people. History In 1955, a meeting of the local residents on the island of Vanna was held in regards to the need for a church on the island. Land for a chapel was donated by a widow named Petro Hansen. When the work was started, most of the groundwork was done on a voluntary basis. The drawing of the building was the same as for Billefjord Chapel in Finnmark. Karlsøy Municipality
Karlsøy ( sme, Gálssa suohkan) is an island municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Hansnes. Other villages include Dåfjord, Hessfjord, Karlsøya, Torsvåg, Vannvåg, and Vannareid. The municipality is made up of many islands including Ringvassøya, Reinøya, Vannøya, Karlsøya, and Rebbenesøya plus several uninhabited islands (many of which were formerly inhabited). Some of the currently uninhabited islands include Helgøya, Nordkvaløya, Grøtøya, and Nord-Fugløya. The municipality is the 103rd largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Monrad Norderval
Monrad Oskar Norderval (1902–1976) was a Norwegian bishop in the Church of Norway. Norderval was born in Ålesund, Norway in 1902. He graduated with the cand.theol. degree in 1928 from the Royal Frederick University in Oslo. He began his ministry as an assistant pastor in Skjervøy in 1929. He then served as vicar in Tana from 1929–1935, in Ørsta from 1935–1948, Ålesund from 1948–1961, and was the bishop of the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland from 1961–1972. He also published poems, essay collections, and memoirs. He died in Ålesund in 1976.
