''Semmelweis'' is a 1940 Hungarian biographical film, biographical drama film directed by André De Toth and starring Tivadar Uray, Gyula Gózon and Erzsi Simor.Juhász p.115 It was shot at the Hunnia Studios in Budapest. The film's sets were designed by the art director Márton Vincze. It is based on the life of the pioneering nineteenth century doctor Ignaz Semmelweis. Later biopics include the 1950 East German film ''Dr. Semmelweis'' and the 1952 Hungarian ''Semmelweis (1952 film), Semmelweis''. André De Toth
Endre Antal Miksa DeToth, better known as Andre de Toth (born Endre Antal Mihály Tóth; May 15, 1913 – October 27, 2002), was a Hungarian-American film director, born and raised in Makó, Austria-Hungary. He directed the 3D film House of Wax (1953 film), ''House of Wax'', despite being unable to see in 3D himself, having lost an eye at an early age. Upon naturalization as a United States citizen in 1945, he took Endre Antal Miksa de Toth as his legal name. Early life Born in 1913 as Sasvári farkasfalvi tóthfalusi Tóth Endre Antal Mihály, de Toth earned a degree in law from the Eötvös Loránd University, Royal Hungarian Pázmány Péter Science's University in Budapest in the early 1930s. István Szabó (actor)
István Szabó (; born 18 February 1938) is a Hungarian film director, screenwriter, and opera director. Szabó is one of the most notable Hungarian filmmakers and one who has been best known outside the Hungarian-speaking world since the late 1960s. István Szabó's films are based on the tradition of the European auteurism that represent many aspects of the political and psychological conflicts of Central Europe's recent history often inspired by his own personal biography. He made his debut as a student in 1959, creating a short film at the Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest, and his first feature film was released in 1964. Juliska Ligeti
Stadion Juliska is a multi-use stadium in Prague-Dejvice, Czech Republic. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of FK Dukla Prague. The stadium is also used for athletics events, including the annual Josef Odložil Memorial. The stadium seats 8,150 people on individual seats. In 2012 a statue of former Dukla player and European Footballer of the Year 1962 Josef Masopust was unveiled outside the stadium. History The stadium played host to its first Dukla match on 10 July 1960 in the 1960 Mitropa Cup. In front of a crowd of 10,000, Dukla beat visitors Wiener SK 2–1, with goals from Rudolf Kučera and Jiří Sůra. In 1997, Dukla Prague vacated the stadium after 49 years in Prague. Ignaz Semmelweis
Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis (; hu, Semmelweis Ignác Fülöp ; 1 July 1818 – 13 August 1865) was a Hungarian physician and scientist, who was an early pioneer of antiseptic procedures. Described as the "saviour of mothers", he discovered that the incidence of puerperal fever (also known as "childbed fever") could be drastically reduced by requiring hand disinfection in obstetrical clinics. Puerperal fever was common in mid-19th-century hospitals and often fatal. He proposed the practice of washing hands with chlorinated lime solutions in 1847 while working in Vienna General Hospital's First Obstetrical Clinic, where doctors' wards had three times the mortality of midwives' wards. He published a book of his findings in ''Etiology, Concept and Prophylaxis of Childbed Fever''.
