''Semesta Mendukung'' (''The Universe Supports''), often abbreviated ''Mestakung'', is a 2011 Indonesian family film directed by John de Rantau. It follows a young Madurese boy as he searches for his mother through the International Physics Olympiad. Plot Muhammad Arief (Sayef Muhammad Billah), the son of poor family in Sumenep, Madura Island, greatly enjoys science, especially physics. His father, Muslat (Lukman Sardi), is a former salt farmer who became a driver after an economic downturn. His mother, Salmah (Helmalia Putri), has gone abroad in search of work; the family have not heard from her, and Arief misses her. Although it is difficult due to his economic situation, Arief studies physics diligently. Arief's physics teacher Tari Hayat (Revalina S. John De Rantau
John de Rantau (born 2 January 1970) is an Indonesian film director. His film ''Denias Senandung Di Atas Awan'' (''Denias, Singing on the Cloud'') was Indonesia's submission to the 80th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, but not nominated. Biography De Rantau was born in Padang, West Sumatra, on 2 January 1970. He finished his studies at the Jakarta Art Institute, then began directing television serials. De Rantau made his featured film debut in 2005 with '' Mencari Madonna'' (''Looking for Madonna''), a film about a Papuan teenager who becomes infected with AIDS and seeks a cure. The story was written by Garin Nugroho, who also produced the film. The film was intended to be submitted to several film festivals, including the Singapore International Film Festival and Shanghai International Film Festival, but disallowed as it was still in digital format, and not 35mm as required. ''Obama Anak Menteng'' (also known as ''Little Obama'') is a 2010 biopic drama film written and directed by Indonesian author Damien Dematra in collaboration with John de Rantau. The film is based on Dematra's novel by the same name. Both the book and the film are a fictionalized account of the childhood of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, who lived in Indonesia from 1967 to 1971. The Indonesian Film Festival (Indonesian: Festival Film Indonesia, 'FFI') is an annual awards ceremony organised by the Indonesian Film Board and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to celebrate cinematic achievements in the Indonesian film industry. During the festival, the ''Piala Citra'' winners are announced and the best Indonesian films of the year are presented. Laura Basuki (born 9 January 1988) is an Indonesian model and actress of mixed Javanese, Chinese and Vietnamese descent. Early life Basuki was born in Berlin on 9 January 1988 to an Indonesian-Chinese dad and a Vietnamese mom. As a teenager, she intended to be a doctor.
