Selånger SK Bandy
Selånger SK Bandy is a bandy club in Sundsvall, Sweden, and part of the sports club alliance Selånger SK. It has its name from the small village of Selånger outside Sundsvall proper. Selånger SK was founded in 1921 and has had many sports under its umbrella, of which bandy has been one of the most successful. The men's bandy team has played 26 seasons in the Swedish top division and was runner-up for the Swedish Championship in 1981. The women's bandy team was runner-up for the Swedish Championship in 1981. The present club was formally founded in 1991, when Selånger SK was divided in different clubs for the different sports: Selånger SK Bandy, Selånger FK, and Selånger SOK, which all share the same name and logo. Selånger SK Bandy continues the traditions and statistics of the bandy department of Selånger SK. It presently play in Division 1, which is the third tier of Swedish bandy. Gärdehov is an indoor arena located in Sundsvall, Sweden, and built in 1966. The ice hockey arena has a capacity of 2,500 spectators (previously 3,300) since the renovation of the arena in summer 2009, and is IF Sundsvall Hockey's home arena. Bandy is a winter sport and ball sport played by two teams wearing ice skates on a large ice surface (either indoors or outdoors) while using sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal. The international governing body for bandy is the Federation of International Bandy (FIB). The playing surface, called a bandy field or bandy rink, is a sheet of ice which measures 90–110 meters by 45–65 meters – about the size of a football pitch. The club runs bandy, association football, soccer, Nordic skiing, orienteering and ski orienteering, earlier even table tennis, cycle sport, cycling, track and field athletics, racewalking, handball and figure skating. Swedish bandy champions () is a title held by the winners of the final of the highest Swedish bandy league played each year, Elitserien. The final is called ''Svenska bandyfinalen'' ("Swedish Bandy Final") and is played in March. From the 2007–08 season, Saturday replaced Sunday as the final date, but was changed back to Sunday again and again to Saturday in 2015 in 2010. In 2009 Eurosport 2 showed it for the 1st time. History The first final was held in 1907, when IFK Uppsala beat IFK Gävle with 4–1 in Boulognerskogen, Gävle. In 1912 two winners were declared, because no replay of the tied final could be played due to the weather. Bandy World Cup
The Bandy World Cup is an international bandy competition played in Sweden at the beginning of the bandy season every year, in autumn. The participating teams qualify based on their results in the previous bandy season. The World Cup is not played by national teams but is for bandy clubs from around the world, and should therefore not be confused with the Bandy World Championship. It is usually considered to be "the world championship for clubs". The tournament has been dominated by Swedish and Russian teams. History The Bandy World Cup was held every year in Ljusdal in Sweden from 1974 to 2008, at the start of the bandy season in autumn.
