Patrick Sellar
Patrick Sellar (1780–1851) was a Scottish lawyer, factor and sheep farmer. In 1811, he was employed as factor by the Sutherland Estate in a joint (but subordinate) position with William Young. The estate had started some clearances, integral to their program of agricultural improvements. Whilst clearances in 1812 went reasonably smoothly, in 1813 Sellar failed to successfully negotiate with angry resistance in the Strath of Kildonan. A state of confrontation existed for more than six weeks and concessions ultimately had to be made by the estate to defuse the situation. In 1814, Sellar had the job of clearing some of the residents of Strathnaver. His actions here gave rise to a number of charges brought by the Sheriff-substitute Robert McKid, who was an enemy of Sellar's. The most serious of these was culpable homicide. Irvine Sellar
Irvine Gerald Sellar (3 September 1934 – 26 February 2017) was an English fashion retailer, and later property developer. He was the founder of the Sellar Property Group, and the developer of The Shard. Early life Sellar was born on 3 September 1934 in London, England. He worked with his father on markets in and around the East End of London. His family was Jewish, and he grew up in Southgate, London. Sellar left school at 16 and studied accounting but decided to start working instead. Career Sellar started his career as a market trader before opening his first shop in St Albans. A second shop followed in Soho's Wardour Street in 1964. The following year, along with his wife Elizabeth, a third shop was opened on Carnaby Street, a parade that was to become a worldwide Mecca for fashion, helping to define London's swinging 60s. William Young Sellar
William Young Sellar FRSE LLD (22 February 1825 – 12 October 1890) was a Scottish classical scholar. Life Sellar was born at Morvich in Sutherland the son of Patrick Sellar of Westfield, Morayshire and his wife Anne Craig of Barmakelty, Moray. He was educated at the Edinburgh Academy 1832 to 1839 (dux in his final year) and afterwards studied classics at the University of Glasgow. He entered Balliol College, Oxford, as a scholar. Graduating with a first-class in classics, he was elected fellow of Oriel, and, after holding assistant professorships at Durham, Glasgow and St Andrews, was appointed professor of Greek at St Andrews (1857). In 1863 he was elected professor of humanity in Edinburgh University, and occupied that chair until his death. In Edinburgh he lived at 15 Buckingham Terrace in the West End, near Dean Bridge. David Sellar
William David Hamilton Sellar, Member of the Royal Victorian Order, MVO, FRHistS, FSA (Scot), Royal Heraldry Society of Canada, FRHSC (Hon) (27 February 1941 – 26 January 2019) served as Lord Lyon King of Arms from 2008 to 2014. He was married, with three adult sons and a step-son. Sellar read history at University of Oxford, Oxford University graduating as Bachelor of Arts before gaining a law degree (LLB) from the University of Edinburgh. Kenneth Sellar
Kenneth 'Monkey' Sellar (11 August 1906 – 15 May 1989) was an English sportsman who represented the England national rugby union team and played first-class cricket for Sussex. As a right-handed specialist batsman, Sellar appeared in 19 first-class matches and made 616 runs at 19.87. Many of those matches were with Sussex but he also played for the Royal Navy Cricket Club. He made just one century in his career, an innings of 119 in a County Championship match against Somerset in Hove. He was better known as a rugby player and out of his seven caps, six were in Five Nations and the other came when England defeated Australia at Twickenham. He was a member of the 1928 Five Nations Championship team which won the triple crown. Alexander Craig Sellar (17 October 1835 – 16 January 1890) was a Scottish lawyer and Liberal Party (later Liberal Unionist) politician. Sellar was the son of Patrick Sellar of Westfield, Morayshire, a lawyer, factor and sheep farmer, and his wife Ann (née Craig). He was educated at Rugby School, and at Balliol College, Oxford where he was a favoured student of Benjamin Jowett. He became a Scottish Advocate in 1862 and was legal secretary to the Lord Advocate for Scotland from 1870 to 1874. In 1873 he published ''Manual of the Education Act for Scotland''. He was a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant for Argyllshire. In 1870 he married Gertrude Smith, daughter of Octavius Henry Smith.
