Selim Abdulakim
Selim Abdulakim (also transliterated in Romanian as: Selim Abdulachim; 1886–1943) known as the first Crimean Tatar lawyer in Romania was a leading politician of the Tatars in Romania, an activist for ethnic Tatar causes. Biography Selim was born in 1886. He was the brother of Second Lieutenant Kázím Abdulakim, a World War I hero of the Romanian Army who lost his life during the Battle of Mărăşeşti in 1917. Selim's sister Şefika, also known as Sapiye, was the wife of the beloved Crimean Tatar poet Memet Niyaziy. Selim was married to Sayide (also spelled in Romanian as Saide). Since 1911 he studied at Bucharest Law Faculty. Between the two wars Selim was president of the Muslim community in Constanța and Deputy Mayor of Constanța. He was a Member of the Romanian Parliament where he defended the rights of the Muslims of Dobruja. Dobruja or Dobrudja (; bg, Добруджа, Dobrudzha or ''Dobrudža''; ro, Dobrogea, or ; tr, Dobruca) is a historical region in the Balkans that has been divided since the 19th century between the territories of Bulgaria and Romania. It is situated between the lower Danube River and the Black Sea, and includes the Danube Delta, Romanian coast, and the northernmost part of the Bulgarian coast. Islam in Romania is followed by only 0.3 percent of population, but has 700 years of tradition in Northern Dobruja, a region on the Black Sea coast which was part of the Ottoman Empire for almost five centuries (ca. 1420-1878). In present-day Romania, most adherents to Islam belong to the Tatar and Turkish ethnic communities and follow the Sunni doctrine. The Islamic religion is one of the 18 rites awarded state recognition. According to tradition, Islam was first established locally around Sufi leader Sari Saltik during the Byzantine epoch. Romanian Parliament
The Parliament of Romania ( ro, Parlamentul României) is the national bicameral legislature of Romania, consisting of the Chamber of Deputies ( ro, Camera Deputaților) and the Senate ( ro, Senat). It meets at the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, the capital of the country. Prior to the modification of the Constitution in 2003, the two houses had identical attributes. A text of a law had to be approved by both houses. If the text differed, a special commission ( ro, comisie de mediere) was formed by deputies and senators, that "negotiated" between the two houses the form of the future law.
