Segal, Kentucky
Segal is an unincorporated community in west-central Edmonson County in south-central Kentucky, United States. Segal is part of the Bowling Green Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Segal is located in the west-central portion of Edmonson County, at coordinates 37°12' 20"N 86°23' 6"W, which is about west of Brownsville. In terms of transportation, the community is currently served by only one state highway, Kentucky Route 655 (KY 655), a C-shaped route which connects the community with KY 70 at Windyville. Previously, two state highways met at this community, KY 67 and the original KY 555 (now KY 655). KY 67 previously served as a direct route for travel to Bowling Green via the now-decommissioned Bear Creek Ferry on the nearby Green River from 1929 until the late 1960s. Kentucky Route 70
Kentucky Route 70 (KY 70) is a long east-east state highway that originates at a junction with U.S. Route 60 (US 60) in Smithland in Livingston County, just east of the Ohio River. The route continues through the counties of Crittenden, Caldwell, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Butler, Edmonson, Barren, Barren, Metcalfe, Green, Taylor, Casey, Pulaski, Lincoln and back into Pulaski again to terminate at a junction with US 150 near Maretburg in Rockcastle. Route description Livingston County Kentucky Route 70 begins in the Livingston County seat of Smithland, Kentucky, originating at a junction with U.S. Route 60 (US 60). It travels eastward to a junction with KY 866, and reaches a dead end at Tiline, along the Cumberland River. Edmonson County High School
Edmonson County High School is a four year high school located in Brownsville, Kentucky, United States. It is the only high school serving the Edmonson County School system. History The school was established in 1959 following the consolidation of all the rural high schools throughout Edmonson County. The original location was at 191 West Center Street, which was home of the Edmonson County Middle School from 1981 until summer 2004, and is now the current location of the Edmonson County Fifth/Sixth Grade Center since 2004. The current Edmonson County High School was completed in 1981. In the early 2000s, the decision was made to expand the high school facility and to construct a new Middle School next to the high school. Asphalt is an unincorporated community located in Edmonson County, Kentucky, United States. Geography Asphalt is located about west of Brownsville, the county seat of Edmonson County. In terms of transportation, it is served by Kentucky Route 655 (Segal Road) off of KY 70. The community is southwest of KY 655's intersection with KY 70 at Windyville. Sites of interest The Mathias Willis Store House is located near Asphalt at the end of Salvage Road (formerly Cummins Road). It was a mid-19th century store building that served customers traveling along the Green River, which flows just south of the community. In 1987, the store house was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Churches Asphalt is the home to the Asphalt Church of Christ (formerly New Liberty Church), one of Edmonson County's several places of worship. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is Kentucky's state-funded agency charged with building and maintaining federal highways and Kentucky state highways, as well as regulating other transportation related issues. Kentucky Route 67 (KY 67) is a Kentucky State Highway originating at a junction with Interstate 64 (I-64) near Grayson, Kentucky in Carter County. The route continues through rural ridgetops in Greenup County and briefly touches Boyd County before terminating at U.S. Route 23 (US 23) in Greenup County in between Wurtland and Greenup.
