Seeker Wireless
Seeker Wireless was a company based in Sydney, Australia, that developed a range of technologies for mobile positioning, including a Hybrid positioning system. Seeker Wireless’ technology used proprietary statistical algorithms to calculate the position of mobile devices based on combinations of cellular, Wi-Fi and/or GPS radio data measured by the terminal. In the majority of their commercial solutions, the processing of the radio data for location determination is performed in the terminal or on the SIM card, providing a distributed, user-plane architecture. Seeker Wireless did however also provide a zone-based charging (geofencing) solution that can be configured to operate as a purely network-based system. Mobile phone tracking is a process for identifying the location of a mobile phone, whether stationary or moving. Localization may be effected by a number of technologies, such as the multilateration of radio signals between (several) cell towers of the network and the phone or by simply using GNSS. To locate a mobile phone using multilateration of mobile radio signals, the phone must emit at least the idle signal to contact nearby antenna towers and does not require an active call. The Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) is based on the phone's signal strength to nearby antenna masts. Mobile positioning may be used for location-based services that disclose the actual coordinates of a mobile phone. Since its takeover by Cuscaden Peak in 2022, it has been renamed Cuscaden Peak Investments. Windows Mobile
Windows Mobile is a discontinued family of mobile operating systems developed by Microsoft for smartphones and personal digital assistants. Its origin dated back to Windows CE in 1996, though Windows Mobile itself first appeared in 2000 as Pocket PC 2000 which ran on Pocket PC PDAs. It was renamed "Windows Mobile" in 2003, at which point it came in several versions (similar to the desktop versions of Windows) and was aimed at business and enterprise consumers. When initially released in the mid-2000s, it was to be the portable equivalent of what Windows desktop OS was: a major force in the then-emerging mobile/portable areas. Symbian S60
The S60 Platform (formerly Series 60 User Interface) was a software platform for smartphones that runs on top of the Symbian operating system. It was created by Nokia based on the 'Pearl' user interface from Symbian Ltd. It was introduced at COMDEX in November 2001 and first shipped with the Nokia 7650 smartphone. The platform has since seen 5 updated editions. Series 60 was renamed to ''S60'' in November 2005. SIM Application Toolkit (STK) is a standard of the GSM system which enables the subscriber identity module (SIM card) to initiate actions which can be used for various value-added services. Similar standards exist for other network and card systems, with the USIM Application Toolkit (USAT) for Universal Subscriber Identity Module, USIMs used by newer-generation networks being an example. A positioning system is a system for determining the position of an object in space. One of the most well-known and commonly used positioning systems is the Global Positioning System (GPS). Positioning system technologies exist ranging from worldwide coverage with meter accuracy to workspace coverage with sub-millimeter accuracy. Coverage Interplanetary systems Interplanetary-radio communication systems not only communicate with spacecraft, but they are also used to determine their position. Radar can track targets near the Earth, but spacecraft in deep space must have a working transponder on board to echo a radio signal back. Orientation information can be obtained using star trackers. Fixed Mobile Substitution
Fixed Mobile Substitution, usually abbreviated to FMS, is the use of a mobile phone (cellular phone) instead of a fixed, wired, POTS telephone. Although strictly, this could simply be as the result of a subscriber making an individual choice (for example, "25% of the population of Finland do not have a fixed phone, but use mobiles all the time, even at home"), the term is usually used to describe a deliberate tactic of a carrier to promote such a behavior. One such technique is the use of "homezones" (where calls on a designated cell, covering the subscriber's home, are at a preferential tariff, or even free). Although very popular with subscribers, and delivering good uptake, these are expensive for carriers, and outside of a few specific countries (e.g. Germany with Genion and Zu Hause services) they are not common.
