Scunthorpe General Hospital
Scunthorpe General Hospital is the main hospital for North Lincolnshire. It is situated on Church Lane in the west of Scunthorpe, off Kingsway (the A18), and north of the railway. Until the 1970s, it was known as Scunthorpe and District War Memorial Hospital. A & E is at the far north of the site on Cliff Gardens, accessed via Highfield Avenue, off Doncaster Road (the A1029). As well as North Lincolnshire, it also serves Gainsborough and Goole. It is managed by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. History Background In the 1850s when the steel industry was forming, if there were serious accidents at work, men were taken by horse and cart to the ferry at New Holland and then on to Hull. Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS Foundation Trust which was established in April 2001, by a merger of North East Lincolnshire NHS Trust and Scunthorpe and Goole Hospitals NHS Trust. It runs the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, Scunthorpe General Hospital, both in Lincolnshire, and Goole and District Hospital, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The trust established the Path Links Pathology Service jointly with United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust in 2001. In January 2016 the trust was one of five where substantial reconfiguration of services was envisaged. ''It's a Knockout!'' is a British game show first broadcast in 1966. It was adapted from the French show ''Intervilles'', and was part of the international ''Jeux sans frontières'' franchise. History The series was broadcast on BBC1 from 7 August 1966 to 30 July 1982; thereafter a number of specials were broadcast until 25 December 1988. An episode was made by TVS for ITV which aired on 28 May 1990 as part of its ITV Telethon that year with Bernie Clifton as the host. Welsh version A Welsh version, ' (''Games without Frontiers''), was broadcast from 3 August 1991 to 24 December 1994 on S4C. It had Welsh teams battling against European contestants dressed in pink colours. Nia Chiswell and Iestyn Garlick presented. Locations included Bodelwyddan Castle, with Nia dressed as Alice in Wonderland. The series won a BAFTA Cymru award in 1994. Normanby Hall
Normanby Hall is a classic English mansion, located near the village of Burton-upon-Stather, north of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. History The present hall was built in 1825–30 to the designs of Robert Smirke for Sir Robert Sheffield (1786–1862). The Sheffield family had lived on the site since 1539 and the family's titles include Dukes of Buckingham and Normanby and Sheffield baronets. It replaced a previous 17th century building. John Sheffield became Duke of Buckingham and Normanby in 1703. He built a fine mansion in London called Buckingham House. His son, the second Duke sold the house to George III and it is now known as Buckingham Palace. The house was extended and altered to designs by Walter Brierley between 1906 and 1908. The Sheffield family moved out of Normanby Hall in 1963. The hall is now in the care of the North Lincolnshire Council. The former 350 acre (1.4 km2) estate around the hall is now a country park. Ernest Brown (British Politician)
Alfred Ernest Brown (27 August 1881 – 16 February 1962) was a British politician who served as leader of the Liberal Nationals from 1940 until 1945. He was a member of Parliament and also held many other political offices throughout the Second World War. Biography Born in Torquay, Devon, Brown was the son of a fisherman and prominent Baptist and it was through following his father that he came to preach, gaining much experience as a public speaker. He soon came to the attention of the local Liberals and became a prominent public speaker at political meetings. Brown served in the First World War: in 1914 he joined the Sportsman's Battalion and in 1916 was commissioned as an officer in the Somerset Light Infantry. He was mentioned in dispatches and was awarded the Military Cross.
