Scott Curry (rugby Union)
Scott Curry (born 17 May 1988) is a New Zealand rugby union player. He plays for the New Zealand national rugby sevens team. He made his debut at the 2010 Dubai Sevens. He made his debut appearance at the Olympics representing New Zealand at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Career Curry was ruled out of the All Blacks Sevens squad to the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Russia due to an injury he sustained during training. He was included in the squad for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. However, New Zealand lost to South Africa 12–17 in the final. Curry captained the All Blacks Sevens side at the 2015 USA Sevens after DJ Forbes was injured in Wellington. He captained the rugby sevens side at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He won gold medal with the New Zealand team in the men's rugby sevens tournament during the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens was the eighth edition of the Rugby World Cup Sevens organised by World Rugby. The 2022 tournament, comprising 24 men's and 16 women's teams as previously, was played over three days in one venue in September. It took place at the Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa between 9 and 11 September 2022. It was the first ever Rugby World Cup Sevens in Africa. The men's tournament in the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens was held at AT&T Park in San Francisco. New Zealand won the tournament and took home the Melrose Cup by defeating England 33–12 in the final; South Africa won the bronze by defeating Fiji 24–19. Rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics was held over six days in August 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. The 2016 Olympics was the debut for rugby sevens at the Summer Olympics, though rugby union was last played at the 1924 games. The usual laws of rugby sevens applied. The 2015 Wellington Sevens is the 16th edition of the tournament as part of the 2014–15 Sevens World Series. It is hosted in Wellington, New Zealand, at the Westpac Stadium. Format The teams are divided into pools of four teams, who play a round-robin within the pool. Points are awarded in each pool on a different schedule from most rugby tournaments—3 for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss. The top two teams in each pool advance to the Cup competition. DJ Forbes
Derek Jamie "DJ" Forbes (born 15 December 1982) is a New Zealand former rugby union player and captain of the All Blacks Sevens team. Forbes is part Samoan, and also played rugby fifteens as a loose forward for Counties Manukau. Forbes was born in Auckland, New Zealand. Since receiving the captaincy role in 2006, he played in over 80 tournaments, won six Sevens Series titles and won one Gold and one Silver Commonwealth Games medal. Forbes stepped down as captain for the All Blacks Sevens to concentrate on earning a spot in the team for the 2016 Olympics. His uncle is the late former Samoan international Peter Fatialofa. Forbes was awarded the 2008 New Zealand Samoan Sportsperson of the year. He announced his retirement from rugby sevens in 2017. The 2015 USA Sevens (also sometimes referred to as the 2015 Las Vegas Sevens) is the twelfth edition of the USA Sevens tournament, and the fifth tournament of the 2014–15 Sevens World Series. The South African national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, the Rugby World Cup Sevens, the Summer Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games.
