2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens
The 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens was the eighth edition of the Rugby World Cup Sevens organised by World Rugby. The 2022 tournament, comprising 24 men's and 16 women's teams as previously, was played over three days in one venue in September. It took place at the Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa between 9 and 11 September 2022. It was the first ever Rugby World Cup Sevens in Africa. The dates were chosen to take into account in the Commonwealth Games tournament which took place in July the same year. Bidding A record 11 unions formally expressed interest in hosting Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022. The unions were issued formal bid application documents by World Rugby and had to submit their responses by 16 July 2019. Cape Town Stadium
The Cape Town Stadium ( af, Kaapstad-stadion; xh, Inkundla yezemidlalo yaseKapa) is an association football (soccer) and rugby union stadium in Cape Town, South Africa, that was built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. During the planning stage, it was known as the Green Point Stadium, which was the name of the older stadium on an adjacent site, and this name was also used frequently during World Cup media coverage. It is the home ground of Premier Soccer League clubs Cape Town Spurs (since 2010) and Cape Town City (since 2016). It has also hosted the South Africa Sevens rugby tournament since 2015. 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens – Women's Tournament
The women's tournament in the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens was held at AT&T Park in San Francisco alongside the men's tournament in which the teams competed for the Women's Rugby Sevens World Cup.
