Moses Schorr
Moses Schorr, Polish: Mojżesz Schorr (May 10, 1874 – July 8, 1941) was a rabbi, Polish historian, politician, Bible scholar, assyriologist and orientalist. Schorr was one of the top experts on the history of the Jews in Poland. He was the first Jewish researcher of Polish archives, historical sources, and pinkasim. The president of the 13th district B'nai B'rith Poland, he was a humanist and modern rabbi who ministered the central synagogue of Poland during its last years before the Holocaust. Schorr was the first historian to undertake the systematic study of Jewish history in Poland, and Galicia in particular. He made discoveries after finding and translating Babylonian, Assyrian, and Hittite legislative annals. As a scholar of the jurisprudence and civilizations of the Ancient Middle East, Schorr was a legal philosopher and sociologist of Ancient Middle Eastern societies. Daniel Louis Schorr (August 31, 1916 – July 23, 2010) was an American journalist who covered world news for more than 60 years. He was most recently a Senior News Analyst for National Public Radio (NPR). Schorr won three Emmy Awards for his television journalism. Early life Schorr was born in the Bronx, New York, the son of Russian immigrants Tillie Godiner and Gedaliah Tchornemoretz. He began his journalism career at the age of 13, when he came upon a woman who had jumped or fallen from the roof of his apartment building. After calling the police, he phoned the ''Bronx Home News'' and was paid $5 for his information. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the West Bronx, where he worked on the ''Clinton News'', the school paper. Avraham Halevi Schorr, also known as Avrohom Schorr, is a Rabbi in Flatbush, NY. He is the Rav of Congregation Nezer Gedalyahu and author of numerous works on Jewish theology. He is the son of Gedalia Schorr, former Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas and brother of Rabbi Yisroel Simcha Schorr, current Rosh yeshiva of Ohr Somayach, Monsey and one of the General Editors of the English and Hebrew translations of Artscroll's Schottenstein Edition Talmud. Schorr has been the compiler of Ohr Gedaliyahu. Israel Schorr
Israel Schorr (1886 - April 9, 1935) was a prominent cantor during the ''Golden Age of Hazzanut''. Born in Khyriv, the Polish region of Galicia then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to a Hasidic family, Schorr began his career as a boy, singing soprano in the courts of various Hasidic masters, notably the ''Rebbe'' (Grand Rabbi) of Rymanow. In 1904, Schorr replaced his distant relative Hazzan Boruch Schorr as the official cantor for the rebbe of Rymanów. During World War I, Schorr served in the Imperial army of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After the war, he took various cantorial posts in central and eastern Europe, including Brno in Czechoslovakia, Kraków in Poland and a brief stint in Zürich, Switzerland. With help from Congressman Sol Bloom of Chicago, Schorr emigrated to the United States in 1924 on an artist's visa to accept a position in Chicago. Schorr (crater)
Schorr is a lunar impact crater that lies across the eastern limb of the Moon. From the Earth this crater is viewed from the side, limiting the amount of detail that can be observed. The visibility of this crater is also affected by libration of the Moon in its orbit. The crater lies just to the northwest of the walled plain Curie, and to the east-southeast of the crater Gibbs. When viewed from orbit, this appears as a circular crater with an outer rim that has not been significantly worn through impact erosion. The material along the inner walls has accumulated along the bottom of the sloping sides, forming a ledge along parts of the base. The interior floor is irregular in places, with low ridges crossing parts of the bottom. Schorr intrudes slightly into the satellite crater Schorr A to the southeast. Friedrich Schorr (September 2, 1888 – August 14, 1953), was a renowned Austrian- Hungarian bass-baritone opera singer of Jewish origin. He later became a naturalized American. Schorr was particularly famous for his profound portrayals of Wotan in ''Der Ring des Nibelungen'' and Hans Sachs in '' Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg''. He was celebrated, too, for his appearances as Don Pizarro in Beethoven's ''Fidelio''. His voice was powerful, steady, and rich-toned, with a beautiful ''mezza voce''.
