Bill Schorr
Bill Schorr is an American cartoonist of syndicated editorial cartoons and comic strips. Early life Schorr was born in New York City, and was raised in and grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and California. Career Schorr has been an editorial cartoonist for the '' Kansas City Star'' (where he got his start in 1973), the ''Los Angeles Herald Examiner'', and the '' New York Daily News''. Comic Strip
A comic strip is a sequence of drawings, often cartoons, arranged in interrelated panels to display brief humor or form a narrative, often serialized, with text in balloons and captions. Traditionally, throughout the 20th and into the 21st century, these have been published in newspapers and magazines, with daily horizontal strips printed in black-and-white in newspapers, while Sunday papers offered longer sequences in special color comics sections. With the advent of the internet, online comic strips began to appear as webcomics. Strips are written and drawn by a comics artist, known as a cartoonist. Eclipse Comics was an American comic book publisher, one of several independent publishers during the 1980s and early 1990s. In 1978, it published the first graphic novel intended for the newly created comic book specialty store market. It was one of the first to offer royalties and creator ownership of rights, and it was the first comics company to publish trading cards. History The company was founded as Eclipse Enterprises by brothers Jan and Dean Mullaney in 1977. Eclipse published one of the first original graphic novels, and the first to be sold through the new "direct market" of comic-book stores, '' Sabre: Slow Fade of an Endangered Species'' by Don McGregor and Paul Gulacy. The ''Los Angeles Times'' Syndicate was a print syndication service that operated from 1949 to 2000. Owned by the Times Mirror Company, it also operated the ''Los Angeles Times'' Syndicate International; together the two divisions sold more than 140 features in more than 100 countries around the world. Syndicated features included Pulitzer Prize-winning commentators and columnists, full news and feature services, editorial cartoons and comic strips, online products and photo and graphics packages. The Newspaper Enterprise Association (NEA) is an editorial column and comic strip newspaper syndication service based in the United States and established in 1902. The New York ''Daily News'', officially titled the ''Daily News'', is an American newspaper based in Jersey City, NJ. It was founded in 1919 by Joseph Medill Patterson as the ''Illustrated Daily News''. It was the first U.S. daily printed in tabloid format. It reached its peak circulation in 1947, at 2.4 million copies a day. As of 2019 it was the eleventh-highest circulated newspaper in the United States. Conrad was a comic strip about "America's favorite frog prince". Written and illustrated by Bill Schorr, the strip was launched November 8, 1982. Syndicated by Tribune Media Services, it had a run for over three years, ending June 7, 1986. Characters and story The frog Conrad, needing money to pay his bookie, convinces the fat, dim-witted fairy tale princess that he is an enchanted prince who can be turned into a human by a kiss. Other characters include the princess' father, the King, who is skeptical that Conrad is a prince, and resident witch Aggie, who grants spells and potions to the princess. The ''Los Angeles Herald Examiner'' was a major Los Angeles daily newspaper, published in the afternoon from Monday to Friday and in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays. It was part of the Hearst syndicate. It was formed when the afternoon '' Herald-Express'' and the morning ''Los Angeles Examiner'', both of which were published there since the turn of the 20th century, merged in 1962. For a few years after the merger, the ''Los Angeles Herald Examiner'' had the largest afternoon-newspaper circulation in the US. It published its last edition on November 2, 1989.
