The School of Medicine, Walailak University () is a medical school in Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. History In 2004, by support from the citizens of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, a project to improve healthcare in the province was proposed to the cabinet. On 11 March 2006, the Walailak University Council, along with the Collaborative Project to Increase Production of Rural Doctor (CPIRD), the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), the school of Medicine was set up and the Doctor of Medicine degree was approved by the Medical Council of Thailand. On 27 November 2006, the school made an agreement with the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University for it to act as a mentoring institution for the school. The school was officially opened on 24 September 2007, initially opening admission for 48 students from Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang and Phuket Provinces only, for the 2008 academic year. Medical education in Thailand was pioneered by King Chulalongkorn, who founded the country's first medical school called the "School of Medical Practitioners" at Siriraj Hospital in 1889, now the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. Trang Hospital
Trang Hospital () is the main hospital of Trang Province, Thailand and is classified under the Ministry of Public Health as a regional hospital. It has a CPIRD Medical Education Center which trains doctors of the School of Medicine, Walailak University and is an affiliated teaching hospital of the Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University. History In the early 1950s, Trang only had a health station in the city center (now the location of Trang Hotel) and its operations were transferred to the Ministry of Public Health in 1951. Limited space meant expanding the hospital was difficult, so plans were proposed to build a new hospital on a 53 rai land of the Royal Treasury at Khuan Han. Construction began in 1951 and the hospital was opened on 12 April 1954 with a capacity of 25 beds. Locals called it 'Khuan Han Hospital' due to its location. Vachira Phuket Hospital
Vachira Phuket Hospital () is the main hospital of Phuket Province, Thailand and is classified under the Ministry of Public Health as a regional hospital. History The first hospital in Phuket was constructed in 1906 by Phraya Ratsadanupradit, funded by local merchants and citizens and was called Sukhaphiban Hospital. It was located on Komarapat Road and was under the management of Monthon Phuket. The Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, the second oldest medical school in Thailand, was established in 1947 in accordance with the wishes of King Ananda Mahidol to educate a sufficient number of medical doctors to satisfy the public's demands.
