Paul Wilhelm Schmiedel
Paul Wilhelm Schmiedel (December 22, 1851 – April 10, 1935) was a German theologian and professor of New Testament exegesis born in Zaukeroda ( Zauckerode, now a part of Freital, Saxony) near Dresden. He studied theology in Jena, where he had as instructors Otto Pfleiderer (1839–1908) and Richard Adelbert Lipsius (1830–1892). In 1879 he received his habilitation, and from 1893 to 1923 was a full professor at the University of Zurich. Schmiedel was the author of "The Johannine Writings" (translated into English in 1908) and an 1894 revision of Georg Benedikt Winer's ''Grammatik des neutestamentlichen Sprachidioms''. He also made important contributions to the ''Encyclopaedia Biblica''. Oskar Schmiedel
Oskar Schmiedel (30 October 1887, Vienna — 27 December 1959, Schwäbisch Gmünd) was a pharmacist, anthroposophist, therapist, Goethean scientist and theosophist. Life His father came to Vienna from the Saxon part of the Erzgebirge mountains. He had a paper factory. His mother was Viennese. Oskar did a year of military service and studied chemistry at Munich University after. In 1907 he joined the Theosophical Society. Soon after this he saw and heard Rudolf Steiner and became his personal pupil after hearing a lecture in Michael Bauer's house in Nuremberg. He devoted his whole life to anthroposophy. He became involved with the first performance of the Mystery Plays, building scenery and acting as a stage hand. He was in charge of the first groups of eurythmists that appeared on stage. Dovid Shmidel (also spelled Dovid Schmidel, Polish: Szmiedl; born 1934) of Bnei Brak is a rabbi and the Chairman of Asra Kadisha (the Committee for the Preservation of Gravesites). He was involved in struggles against excavations at various locations including at the Tomb of Maimonides in Tiberias in 1956 and at Israel's Highway 6; as well as at the disputed tomb of Antigonus II Mattathias in East Jerusalem. For an entire year, Shmidel was occupied with preserving the old Jewish cemetery in Egypt. Shmidel heads a kolel in Komemiyut for tens of married men who live in Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, and other places, but they stay all week at the kolel and only go home for Shabbat.
