Schauman Hall
Schauman is a Swedo-Finnish noble family introduced in both the Swedish House of Nobility and the Finnish House of Nobility. Originally known as a family of high-ranking soldiers, since the 1800s its representatives have become known in numerous other fields. The family is from the Baltic countries and moved to Finland at the end of the 1600s. It is considered to be from the nobility of Courland. However, according to an alternative theory the roots of the family could be in Kurpfalz, Germany, in which in 1596 a family with the same name was ennobled. The Finnish ancestor of the family is lieutenant colonel Henrik Johan Schauman (1649–1730) of the Turku County Cavalry Regiment, who came from the Ogre region in Livonia and moved to Sweden in 1662. He was naturalized in the Swedish nobility in 1686 by Charles XI of Sweden and his family was introduced to the House of Knights in 1697 as a nobleman, number 1287. Folkhälsan
Samfundet Folkhälsan, or in short Folkhälsan (literally "Public Health"), is a non-governmental organization based in Finland. It is active in advocating social welfare and health care for the Swedish speakers of Finland. The organization carries out scientific research and informs and counsels in order to promote health and good quality of life. Folkhälsan’s activities include assistance, support, education, and care, being present at every stage of life. Founded in 1921, Folkhälsan employs today approximately 1,400 people. Our local associations across Swedish-speaking Finland have almost 19,000 members. Folkhälsan works towards a society where health and quality of life are central concerns. Ossian Schauman
Julius Ossian Schauman (30 March 1862 – 6 February 1922) was one of the founders of the Swedish-speaking non-governmental organization ''Folkhälsan'', which provides social welfare and health care services in Finland. He was also the younger brother of Wilhelm Schauman. Life Ossian Schauman was born on 30 March 1862 in Jakobstad to the pharmacist and businessman Victor Schauman and his wife Elise Wilhelmina Schauman (née Ekelund), who had 13 children in total. The father died of heart failure before the age of 50, when Ossian Schauman was only 10 years old. There seems to have been a genetic heart defect running in the family, since both Ossian Schauman and several of his brothers also died before they had turned 60 years old. He displayed an interest in botany already at an early age, and could often be found tending to plants in the garden. Georg Schauman
Georg Carl August Schauman (14 September 1870 – 6 October 1930) was a Finnish historian, librarian and politician. He was librarian at the University of Helsinki library, today the National Library of Finland, as well as a member of the Diet and later Parliament of Finland. Schauman attended the University of Helsinki, where he was vice chairman of the Prometheus Society for the promotion of freedom of religion. Nikolay Ivanovich Bobrikov (russian: Никола́й Ива́нович Бо́бриков; in St. Petersburg – June 17, 1904 in Helsinki, Grand Duchy of Finland) was a Russian general and politician. He was the Governor-General of Finland and the Finnish Military District from to during the early reign of Emperor Nicholas II, and was responsible for the Russification of Finland.
