SBS Broadcasting Group (SBS), formerly Scandinavian Broadcasting Systems, was a European multinational media group, operating commercial television, premium pay channels, radio stations and related print businesses in Northern, Western and Central and Eastern Europe. It became the second-largest broadcaster in Europe. History SBS was founded by Harry E. Sloan in 1989, who bought a stake in the Danish station Kanal 2 (a local station in Copenhagen, now Kanal 4) and Norwegian TVNorge. In 1991, Sloan bought the Swedish Nordic Channel, which was soon renamed Kanal 5 and became the third largest commercial broadcaster in the country. The company was originally known as "TV1", but was renamed "Scandinavian Broadcasting Systems" in 1991. After expanding into Benelux and Eastern Europe, the name was changed again, this time to SBS. TV5 (''TV Five'') is a Finnish television channel owned and operated by Warner Bros. Discovery EMEA. The channel launched in March 2004 but it was replaced by The Voice TV Finland in November 2004. It started operating again in September 2008 on the same channel as The Voice. It transmitted every day from 6pm to 1am. In the fall of 2010, TV5 started using the same logo, identity, graphics, and branding as Kanal 5, a channel in Sweden also owned by SBS Discovery. TV5 and The Voice became separate channels on April 1, 2011. After that TV5 became the fastest growing channel, by viewers, in Finland in 2011. 6'eren is a Danish subscription television channel operated by Warner Bros. Discovery EMEA. It replaced SBS Net on 1 January 2009. The channel's target audience is males, branding itself with the slogan "Denmark's got a new TV Channel - and it's for men" (Danmark har fået en ny TV-kanal, og den er for mænd). The channel also shows La Liga and FA Cup football. Matches involving Swansea City during the 2013–14 Premier League season, were extensively shown on the channel due to Michael Laudrup's time at the club as manager. Play5 started in October 2004 as SBS Belgium's second channel and a sister channel to VIER (formerly VT4). History On 1 October 2004, the first broadcast was that of a soccer game, even though women are the channel's target audience. By doing that the station made sure that men also would set their TV up to view VIJF. In 2005, its first full year of operation, VIJFtv gained a 5% market share in Flanders, almost matching Kanaaltwee (now 2BE) and VT4. In January 2006, VIJFtv doubled its programming hours and began broadcasting 24 hours every day. VIJFtv began broadcasting the American daytime soap opera ''The Bold and the Beautiful'' (in Dutch ''Mooi en Meedogenloos'') on 4 January 2006.
