Skanderbeg (military Unit)
Skanderbeg was an Albanian military unit assigned to the 14th Italian Army Corps, composed of Albanian soldiers recruited in Albania during the Second World War. This unit participated in the Italian counteroffensive against insurgents in Montenegro, during the Uprising in Montenegro in 1941. Skanderbeg was composed of four battalions and had the strength of one division or two regiments. The 21st Waffen Mountain Division of the SS ''Skanderbeg'' (1st Albanian) was a German mountain infantry division of the Waffen-SS, the armed wing of the German Nazi Party that served alongside, but was never formally part of, the Wehrmacht during World War II. At the post-war Nuremberg trials, the Waffen-SS was declared to be a criminal organisation due to its major involvement in war crimes and crimes against humanity. ''The Great Warrior Skanderbeg'' ( al, Luftëtari i madh i Shqipërisë Skënderbeu; russian: Великий воин Албании Скандербег, Velikiy voin Albanii Skanderbeg) is a 1953 Soviet-Albanian biopic directed by Sergei Yutkevich. It was entered into the 1954 Cannes Film Festival where it earned the International Prize. Yutkevich also earned the Special Mention award for his direction. Skanderbeg Mountains
The Skanderbeg Mountains ( sq, Vargmalet e Skënderbeut or ) are a mountain range in Albania, Southern Europe. Geography Skanderbeg Mountain is located on the border between the district of Kruja and that of Mat with the highest altitude 1724 m (Lake Peak). It stretches from the valley of the river Mat in the north and to Qafa e Shtama in the south, with a length of 22 km and a width of 2-5 km. It is part of the Western Mountains. The relief is very fragmented by streams, tributaries of the Mati and Ishm rivers. The slopes are steep, while the wavy relief, places with glacial and karst forms. On the northeast side, about 200 m below the highest peak, there are two small glacial lakes, which have given the name to the peak. The mountain is lined with dense vegetation. Skanderbeg Military University
The Skanderbeg Military University () was an educational entity of the Albanian People's Army and the Albanian Armed Forces. It was the oldest military education institution in the People's Socialist Republic of Albania. History Communist era It was established on 8 November 1944 as a low-level training course for officers of the National Liberation Movement. This was during the German occupation of Albania. It was housed in the buildings of the engineering department built by the Italian Army. In January 1945, it moved to the capital of Tirana, months after the Liberation of Albania.
