Scalp Trouble
''Scalp Trouble'' is a 1939 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Bob Clampett. The cartoon was released on June 24, 1939, and stars Porky Pig and Daffy Duck. The cartoon has been criticized for its stereotypical and insensitive depictions of Native Americans. Plot General Daffy is commanding Army Post No. 13 on the frontier, and his troops are a sorry lot. Soldier Porky refuses to get out of his bed—that is, until Daffy comes in and eventually destroys it. Soon a tribe of Indians launches an attack on the post on horseback. Porky sees them approaching, and attempts to awaken the other sleeping soldiers. Among the subsequent gags are: An Indian drinks "fire water" and spits fire, carving an Indian-shaped hole in the front of the fort, then walks through it; a short Indian uses the bow-leg of a taller Indian to shoot arrows; and a soldier shoots over the wall at the enemy, keeping score to the tune of "Ten Little Indians." Bob Clampett
Robert Emerson Clampett Sr. (May 8, 1913 – May 2, 1984) was an American animator, director, producer and puppeteer. He was best known for his work on the '' Looney Tunes'' animated series from Warner Bros. as well as the television shows ''Time for Beany'' and ''Beany and Cecil''. He was born and raised not far from Hollywood and, early in life, showed an interest in animation and puppetry. After leaving high school a few months shy of graduating in 1931, he joined the team at Harman-Ising Productions and began working on the studio's newest short subjects, ''Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies''. Clampett was promoted to a directorial position in 1937. During his 15 years at the studio, he directed 84 cartoons later deemed classic, and designed some of the studio's most famous characters, including Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Tweety. ''Plane Daffy'' is a 1944 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Frank Tashlin. The cartoon was released on September 16, 1944, and stars Daffy Duck. The cartoon is a World War II propaganda short that depicts Daffy as a messenger battling a female Nazi spy and eventually being confronted with Adolf Hitler, Joseph Goebbels and Hermann Göring. ''Duck Soup to Nuts'' is a 1944 Warner Bros. '' Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Friz Freleng. The cartoon was released on May 27, 1944, and stars Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. Plot Daffy is relaxing in a pond with a group of mallards. Suddenly a gunshot goes off, and all the ducks dunk their heads underwater for cover (Daffy puts a swimming cap on his head before similarly dunking his head). Porky enters and lets off another shot, which sends the other ducks flying away. Porky then takes aim at Daffy and orders him out. When Daffy comes out (still with his feet in the air), he quickly disarms Porky and tells the hunter that he is no ordinary duck and then shows this off by "singing", "dancing", and "acting" (flashing his contract with Warner Bros.). ''Wise Quacks'' is a 1939 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' animated short film directed by Bob Clampett. The cartoon was released on August 5, 1939, and stars Porky Pig and Daffy Duck. A different design of Daffy was used in this cartoon. In this cartoon, Daffy has a light-colored mask around his eyes and a zig-zag ring around his neck. This design would be used one more time in ''Porky's Last Stand'' in 1940 and some advertisements during the time. ''Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur'' is a 1939 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' animated cartoon short directed by Chuck Jones. The cartoon was released on April 22, 1939, and is the first Daffy Duck cartoon directed by Jones. ''Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur'' is set in a chronologically twisted Stone Age and features Daffy Duck going up against a caveman named Casper (who is a caricature of Jack Benny), and his pet ''Apatosaurus'', Fido. This is the last cartoon with the ''Vitaphone'' intro, which was first used in ''The Phantom Ship'' in 1936.
