Sazae-san
is a Japanese yonkoma manga series written and illustrated by Machiko Hasegawa. It was first published in Hasegawa's local paper, the , on April 22, 1946. When the ''Asahi Shimbun'' wished to have Hasegawa draw the four-panel comic for their paper, she moved to Tokyo in 1949 with the explanation that the main characters had moved from Kyūshū to Tokyo as well. The first ''Sazae-san'' strip run by the ''Asahi Shimbun'' was published on November 30, 1949. The manga dealt with everyday life and contemporary situations in Tokyo until Hasegawa retired and ended the series, with the final comic published on February 21, 1974. ''Sazae-san'' won the 8th Bungeishunjū Manga Award in 1962. Machiko Hasegawa
was a Japanese manga artist and one of the first female manga artists. She started her own comic strip, ''Sazae-san'', in 1946. It reached national circulation via the ''Asahi Shimbun'' in 1949, and ran daily until Hasegawa decided to retire in February 1974. All of her comics were printed in Japan in digest comics; by the mid-1990s, Hasegawa's estate had sold over 60 million copies in Japan alone. Life and career Machiko Hasegawa was born January 30, 1920, in Taku, Saga Prefecture. When she was 15, her father died and the family moved to Tokyo, where she took up drawing cartoons. Hiroshi Masuoka (voice Actor)
was a Japanese actor, voice actor and narrator from Minami, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. He voiced the roles of Masuo Fuguta in ''Sazae-san'' and Jam Ojisan in ''Soreike! Anpanman''. He also voiced Kame-Sennin during the last episodes of ''Dragon Ball Z'' and all of ''Dragon Ball GT'', following Kōhei Miyauchi's death. He worked for the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society until his death in 2020. On August 5, 2019, it was announced that Masuoka had retired from his roles in ''Sazae-san'' and ''Soreike! Anpanman'', which would be taken over by Hideyuki Tanaka and Kōichi Yamadera respectively. Masuoka died on March 21, 2020 from rectal cancer. Miyoko Asō
was a Japanese actress. She is best known for her role as the first voice of Fune Isono from 1969 to 2015 in the longest-running Japanese anime series ''Sazae-san'', which first aired in 1969. She was the voice of Dr. Pinako Rockbell in both ''Fullmetal Alchemist'' anime adaptations. Asō also starred as an actress in cinema, in the 2006 movie '' Aogeba Tōtoshi'', directed by Jun Ichikawa. On September 18, 2015, it was announced that Asō would step down from her role in ''Sazae-san''. She was replaced by Yorie Terauchi on October 5, 2015. On September 3, 2018, it was reported that Asō had died on August 25 from senility. Kazue Takahashi
, known by the stage name , was a Japanese actress and voice actress. Kazue was best known as the voice of Shoutarou Kaneda ("Jimmy Sparks") in ''Tetsujin 28-go'' ("Gigantor"). She debuted in 1949. Kazue was also known for roles in Kaiju Booska and Sazae-san. Kazue graduated from Kasei-Gakuin University. In February 1998, she came down with myelodysplastic syndrome and was transported to the Bunkyo-ku Tokyo University hospital. Three days after her 70th birthday, Kazue died in the Bunkyo-ku Tokyo University hospital annex. She presumably died from bone marrow cancer.
